thoughts - should i get a fill ?

Recommended Posts

hi,

i am 2 months post op, i've had one fill of 3 ccs (in a VG band). i have lost 51 pounds so far - so its about 22 pounds last month.

i do not eat anywhere near as much as i used to, but i can still eat a bit more than i think is "normal" for a bandster. i do not usually get hungry until a few (3-5) hours after i eat, so thats good.

i work out 6 to 8 times a week which i attribute 99% of my weight loss to.

should i get a fill? i have a co-worker who (i am guessing is over-filled) cannot eat much more than Soup. i still want to eat my south beach lunches (whole wheat tortilla & chicken, etc..)

the weight loss has obviously slowed down a bit since surgery, but i do not want to risk being over-filled and not enjoying the food i have been. i do not want to survive on soup .. i think i would lose my motivation because i do not consider this a diet of any kind ... its a lifestyle change and if my food choices are so limited, i will be on a "DIET"...

i am so conflicted. :help: please.

I'd probably wait a bit. If you are losing, and not getting hungry, it sounds like you are at a good spot.

My disclaimer - I've decided that I'd rather be a little on the loose side then too tight. So my advice is based on that.

yep I agree with lisa25

if you are in a good spot...enjoy it...if you are worried about wanting to loose more weight...why not up the exercise...

I concur, If your losing at least one pound per week I would leave it alone. Although, that's not a lot of fill for the bigger band, usually all of my friends who have the vg band it takes about 7 cc's to get good restriction. I've got 1.6 in a 4cc's inamed lowprofile 9.75cm band and it's perfect. I got my first unfill this week. I had a fill of 2.00cc's and I couldn't eat anything and you don't want to get that fill.

If your losing slows down to less than a pound per week that's when I would get a fill.

22 lbs last month!!!!!!! No fill for you woman! You are doing fantastic right where you are at! I dont think your doctor would even consider a fill with that weight loss, "if it aint broke, dont fix it"!

yeah, but i can eat more than i should ... really. i gained 2 1/2 pounds over the weekend. granted i did have more of my daughter's birthday cake than i should have, but i should have had more restriction to stop me from eating so much...:phanvan

i worked out this morning SO hard and my workout schedule for the rest of the month until the 22nd - 16 times in the next 12 days. my goal is another 10 pounds. very aggresive so i am thinking i should go in for the fill... i am just so angry with myself for this weekend. :)

Keep in mind that average weight loss is 1 to 2 lbs per week. That is supposed to include plateaus and stalls, etc. So... you are way ahead of the curve.

I don't blame you for wanting to get off as much as you can as quickly as you can, but, I would say work the fill you have until it slows way down.

Also, I don't think that one weekend of poor eating made you gain 2.5 lbs of fat. You're probably just retaining some extra Water, and it'll go back down in the next couple of days. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
