I have a job where I lift patients. I took 4 & 1/2 weeks off. I am 8 days post op. Feeling good but I need this time to recover my body. Like some had said before, this is Major Surgery!

Im having surgery on the 13th of May and my Dr. said I can resume work in 2 weeks and it makes me nervous because my job requires alot of heavy lifting but he says I will be fine to resume work 2 weeks after... Im so scared that it's not enough time off! I hope I'll be ok anyone else go back to a heavy lifting job 2 weeks later??

Two weeks seems pretty early to me.

I just sit at a desk, the same thing I would have done at home. I am still not lifting more than 15 lbs, still not driving, still peddling a stationary bike every hour at my desk and still not eating past the stages prescribed. I also worked out a great deal before the surgery which I was told helped with recovery. Please take the time you need to take and follow your doctors orders. I wish you all a successful recovery!

No way, I wouldn't do it, at 4 weeks out I was in the yard pulling weeds for a couple of hours. I was sooo sore for like 3 days after. Also, I had a 15 pd lifting restriction for the first 4 weeks.

Had same question and concern before my surgery in March. I returned 10 days to my desk job. I could have after 7...but needed to wait. Give urself at least 10 days.

You could try. I'm able to work from home and did so after after a few days. I was surprised I felt so good. I did go to my office part time the following week.

I don't think you'll know until after you have the surgery. Some people rebound very quickly, others need more time. If you can, take a week off. Then if you are feeling well, maybe you could go in half days after all. I would imagine your surgeon would like you to take at least that next week off. It can take several days to lose the affects of the anethesia.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
