I was told by the medical team to have Clear Liquids (water, broth, Jello, sugerfree popsicles) only the first week post op. That sounds hard but it really wasn't. My stomach just wasn't ready for food. Starting on week two, I could have semi-soft foods and Protein Shakes. My favorite is Muscle Milk chocolate. I also used Slim Fast, 3-2-1. Good luck!

Your husband surgeon will outline the diet guidelines. Each doctor is different. Mine says liquids 3-4 days after surgery, then soft solids for a couple of weeks, then regular foods. They will also recommend a list of Protein Shakes. It all depends on the carb and calorie count. Good luck!

I actually like the Promote high Protein shake that was given to me after my gastric sleeve procedure at the hospital, its pretty tasty. It taste like ensure shake without the added sugar. For flavoring I add a tad bit of vanilla or almond extract and splenda sugar or truvia for added sweetness....DELISH. The company ABBOTT is the same company that makes ENSURE, SIMILAC, etc. The shake can be purchase online at http://abbottnutrition.com/brands/products/promote or you can call them

I must be super weird because I have tried the Protein Shakes from doctor's office (health wise) and syntax and my favorite is Adkins shakes. I can't stand the smell of the other two.

By far the best Protein you can buy is by a company called Dymatize and the brand is Elite Whey or Gourmet Elite Whey Casein blend. They have a ton of flavors, cappacino rush and milk chocolate are my favs. They have less than 150 calories per serving, anywhere from 20-24 grams of protein per serving, and less than 10 carbs. Also keep an eye out for the amount of cholesterol in your shakes. Walmart ones have a really high amount! Search Amazon 2 or 5# sizes available and free shipping or Nutraplanet.com 5#size only but cheaper than anywhere else.

I have found that I like blenderizing the Jay Robb unflavored Protein Powder with 1 cup of skim milk, a couple of ice cubes, and then the additions of various sugar-free sugar-free syrups, such as Torani. I can control the sweetness, and I don't get tired of a flavor. Yesterday I made S'mores flavor by mixing toasted marshmallow, chocolate, and a little caramel sf syrups. It was yummy!

Where do you get the Torani syrups? Thanks!

I found a website "Lollicupstore.com" that carries several brands of sugar-free syrups at a lower price than the websites that make the syrups. They have a huge variety.

I agree that the Premier Protein is the best. I still have one everyday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
