My Surgery was October 9th 2012...my highest weight was 300...day of surgery I was 267...I'm now 198...so I've lost a 102lbs...70 from surgery,33 from pre-op.

So I know I'm only 6 months post op..but with my loosing 102 lbs already..I gotta start researching the skin removal. I still have at least 48 lbs to go..but I need to make sure I can do it. I read that most insurance companies don't pay for it...but I also heard they will pay for it if there's a medical reason. Which im only looking at getting my stomach done...I get rashes...I lost most weight in my stomach. My face too but that went back to normal!!! Im gonna talk to my new doctor and see and hopefully the insurance will pay for it. Also I read that u have to wait 2 years before you get it to make sure your not loosing more weight. What if I'm done way before that!?!? Can I get it before!

With a documented history of rashes and stabilized weight loss for app 1 year, most ins companies will cover a panniculectomy...stomach skin removal. I am documenting rashes like crazy. Should not be too tough since in hospital for the revision, they thought the scars I have below the belly were surgical. Nope, those are from healed rashes!

make sure you document all your rashes and such. pictures. sounds rough but needed. they also measure how far down the skin flap hangs. below the pelvis is a definite go. check with your insurance company. or your surgeon should be able to tell you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
