Can't stop losing

Recommended Posts

NEVER, in my life, did I think I would say those words!! My goal was 115, when I hit 120, I considered myself close enough and figured the other 5 lbs would just happen. I am now 112lbs. That is still a normal BMI, but how do I keep from going lower? I physically cannot eat more, I don't want to add junk food just to boost calories. I'm still only eating my Protein because my tummy can only hold 1/2 cup at a time. That means only occasional bites of veggies/fruits and rare bites of pasta/potatoes/bread/rice.

I had to add carbs and high calorie foods to stop losing. Sigh.... I am forced to eat ice cream every day...

I would start adding more calories and healthy fats. Don't buy low cal junk :P and maybe cut back a little on the Protein to add a few more bites of fruits/veggies/carbs.

Never having had this experience, I can only offer clinical experience. But the answer is simple, take in a few more calories. My experience as a nurse is to have you add a few calories by adding a little dry milk to Soups, add some Protein Powder to foods, have one extra snack like a cheese stick, use full fat dairy, or add a little healthy fats to foods. It's easy to add calories, but the trick is to add them with the appropriate nutrional value. And if all else fails, a little ice cream every day isn't a bad plan :)

You are going to keep losing if you don't change your diet to maintain - at least that is my experience.

An extra snack or two, slightly less meat in favor of something higher calorie (only if you are still meeting your Protein needs), an extra Protein shake, adding carbs - some or all of those may be needed.

Avocado, nuts, and cheese. Full fat dairy. Etc.

I've had to do it - I'm at 124-126 lbs and 5'6". There is no choice for me but to eat more than just meat unless I want to keep losing. It's scary, the transition feels almost like starting over.

Agree with others that you should have more snacks: nuts, cheese and fruit, Protein, veggies. Have a Protein Shake with fruit. There are many ways to add healthy calories, you can do it.

See, that's the thing. My tummy cannot do more food/more often. If I eat less protein to add other foods, I won't even be close to my protein goals. I'm BARELY reaching them now.

I am also waiting for a reply from my Surgeon's nurse and NUT. Was thinking maybe a Protein Ensure to replace the EAS AdvantEdge that I have for Breakfast everyday.

There are many options to seize weight loss. You say you are only doing Proteins, what are you eating for Protein? Your body really needs a broader nutritional spectrum. Try adding nuts to your diet. They are a great source of health fats. You also really need dark green leafy veggies. Have you tried adding freshly made green smoothies to your diet? Last resort, if you do actually reach a point that you are significantly underweight there is Boost VHC (very high calorie) it packs over 500calories into 8oz shake.

I really think that if you concentrate on rounding out your diet, your body will regulate itself to a healthy weight.

Hi The Real Me,

What is your Protein goal? What does your daily diet look like? I see you are having a shake for breakfast. Are you eating solid Protein at lunch and dinner? Do you eat a snack between meals? When was your surgery date?

I eat lean meats, greek yogurt, Ricotta, skim plus, egg beaters, cheese, nuts, cottage cheese, fish, an EAS AdvantEdge for breakfast. I'm hoping my body will just regulate itself.

I eat lean meats, greek yogurt, Ricotta, skim plus, egg beaters, cheese, nuts, cottage cheese, fish, an EAS AdvantEdge for breakfast. I'm supposed to be getting around 100gms of protein per day. I barely make 60-70gms. My surgery was January 23, 2012

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
