I'm kind of OCD (not really) but I have been documenting my progress online, and decided to take it here so I'm not just writing to myself.

A few facts to start. I'm a male living in NE Iowa. I am married with a 4 yr old and a 4 month old.

My consultation is Wednesday. Here they schedule your nutrition consult on the same day as your surgery consult...

I quit diet soda about 2 months ago, and have basically give up caffein (except for the occasional iced tea). Giving up carbonation was way harder than caffeine... isn't that odd?

I've been to a seminar (mandatory for my surgeon) and have scheduled my psych consult for may 8th (a week after the surgery consult).

I've had an EKG and sleep study about 4 years ago, and an endoscopy about a year ago.

My insurance (Cigna) requires 3 months of physician supervised diets, and I have completed those, also.

I'm really anxious for Wednesday, because then it will feel like it is all really going to happen. I will get a timeline (hopefully) and I can feel like I'm making progress.

I've informed my work of potential time off... I've started a blog...

5 whole days until my consultation. My wife tells me actually getting a surgery date takes months, but here's to hoping she's wrong ;)

Any thoughts on other ways I can prepare? Fortunately my doctor is in the same hospital 'system' as the surgeon, so they already have most of my records...

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
