Two days to go and feeling wobbly

Recommended Posts

I'm booked in for 29th April, and feeling v wobbly right now. It seems such a drastic thing to do. Although I have only about 70lb to lose, I have a growing list of weight related health problems that are really affecting my personal and work life, and an awful family history of early death from cancer and heart disease. I'm not a junk food eater but I do love food... and drink and entertaining. So does my hubby but he just doesn't seem to gain weight. I read someone call her VSG "the end of (her) love affair with food", and while that's probably what I need, I'm really hoping that down the track there'll be some enjoyment of food again. Can any long termers out there reassure me?

Hello!

I am only 3 months out and have fallen in love with food in a completely different way compared with before surgery. Before I liked to shovel food into my mouth until I was very uncomfortably full. Now I love food for the taste, the different textures, what it feels like in my mouth, the social aspect and trying new things. Last week my partner took me to a really nice tapas place in Sydney city, it was perfect because everyone shares so I don't have to waste any food. And for my 21st he is taking me to one of the top restaurants in Melbourne.

If your like me the love affair isn't over, it's just going to be different. It's hard at first but just make sure you take the time to really enjoy and savor every mouthful.

Good luck!!!

Mine is on the 29th as well! We're sleeve sisters, lol! OK so I'm with you on the wobbly part. To the point of doubting my decision. I have a BMI of 39.9, about 90 pounds to lose so not a ton of weight, similar situation to you. But I too love entertaining, going out, being social and am a little afraid that will change with the surgery. But I'm trying to remember it's going to change how I eat, not stop me from eating all together. And if the trade off is that I am healthy, confident, and a good role model for my 3 year old daughter, I know that I must do this. So I'm just carrying forward and counting the hours until it will be in the past and behind me!!!

I'm nervous also, but I just keep thinking that my joints will feel better, the fat around my organs will lessen, my blood pressure and cholesterol will go down, I won't have to buy in the woman's section, and I will fit between the student desks and not squeeze through them and knock stuff all over the place. :)

Thank you both for your posts. Beth you said just the perfect thing! And congratulations on how well you are doing. Kay, where are you located? Where are you being sleeved? I'll be at the Mater in Sydney at 10.45 Monday... the woman with a sheet over her head in pre-op... that's what I did last time I had an op. I was terrified but that was for cancer and there was nothing optional about it. It went well and I recovered well too, so it's not as if i have had a terrible experience.

Cheer Mama, I know just where you are coming from. I'm also getting less and less fit and watching my husband "do" things while I sit on the sidelines and watch. Not the way I want to lead my life. I have to keep remembering that for a while now I've been complaining that "I'm 50 not 60", and in the last 6 months I've changed that to "52 not 72, because that's how I often feel.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
