Looking for a (Lap Band) Dr in South Africa

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am going to be in Cape Town from Dec to end of Jan. I have very good restriction at the moment - so do not want an asperation before my flight, which I am sure my nurse will want me to have. I need a to find a Dr in Cape Town just incase I have an issue when I get there due to the very long flight from the UK.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks

Dear Thiyekhile

I am keen to know who did your op. I live in Pretoria and would prefer to have the procedure done here, but I suppose I will also travel to Jhb if the best Drs/clinics are there.

Looking forward to hear from you!

Hi there! You can find Dr G D BROMBACHER on the internet as he has a webpage that gives you all the information you need. Just google his name - Ithink it's the second name from the top. You can phone Sunninghill Hospital - Jhb and they will also be able to give you a name up in Gauteng. Dick Brombacher is in Pietermaritzburg. Best wishes :)

Have you tried doing an an internet search for Bariatric specialists? Or try searching for some of the major private hospitals and then contact them to see if they have anyone.

Hi everyone!

FINALLY people with the problem as me! I also have PCOS and IR. Doctor put me on glucophage, in 20 days I have lost 8.5kg's, but I need to lose weight extremely quick.

I saw a neurologist today who recommened gastric banning (I had never heard of it before) but I don't know what to expect and think about it. Should I consider it or should I not?

I got married last year September 2010 and My Hubby and I desperately want to have kids but the gynae refuses to operate until I am under 100kg's.

I have struggled for 15 years to lose weight....and I lose quickly the first few weeks and then I struggle.....HELP!!!!

Do you know the estimate costs?

Thank you for your help!

Steph

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
