Any Mexico sleevers that has long term success?

Recommended Posts

I've been reading and obsessing over these forums trying to find the right doctor in Mexico, but I'm having a hard time finding anyone that has had their surgery in Mexico and has reached or is close to their goal weight.

I had my surgery January 11th, 2013. I need 13 more lbs until I am at goal. I am shooting for 18 lbs. I have lost, as of this a.m., 62.2 and wanting a loss of 80.

I was sleeved january 17 at Mi Doctor. I'm 102lbs down and about 60-70lbs from goal. Over half way there and only 3.5 months in.

I have no idea how you are not finding anyone who had their surgery in MX. there is an entire forum of people on the boards.

I'm talking about people being successful at being sleeved a year later that had their surgery in Mexico.

I've been searching. I have not been lazy and just asking. Im on here everyday reading all these posts trying to dertime whose real and who is a coordinator. I do use the search function but i thought that out of all these mexico surgeries, surely someone on here is going on a year with continued restriction and weightloss/maintenance. Cannot find many that are sleeved in Mexico a year or so ago. The reason I'm worried is that I'm reading some who went to Mexico and they are not having much restriction a month after being sleeved. Makes me worried that maybe the doctors are not cutting correctly or something.

I'm sure that people drop off the boards after a while. The self pay, Mexico forum is sort of new, so maybe there aren't any people posting that had surgery that long ago.

From my research, most people have their stomach stretch a little over time.

this would be my guess as well that people go back to living their lives and don't contribute as much.

my GF had her sleeve revision from last October and she is down 72 lbs and happy as a pig in poop. She eats normal food, gets full very quickly and has learned that Pasta is not her friend.

It's hard to fine someone who is more than a year out no matter where they had their surgery. I know I don't check in nearly as often as I used to and I'm only 7 months out. Losing the weight helped me get my life back. I was so depressed and unhappy, I was isolating. Now I'm out enjoying life a lot more.

Come check out the Vets board. Oregondaisy is there - she's four years out. I'm there, I'm three years out in July. There are a handful of us all over the boards. The reality is that most people drop off VST after about a six to nine months, return for a one year update and often only come back around their surgiversary after that.

So it's difficult to find vets 2+ years out in any case, regardless of who did their surgery. And maintaining is the real challenge of this journey - not the loss phase as so many think. A small rebound should be considered normal but many drop off because they don't want to admit to struggles post op, or they're out there living life and don't need the support of VST and simply don't have time to visit regularly.

Dr. Aceves did my surgery and I reached goal and maintained quite easily. I had a baby five weeks ago and have just nine pounds back to my pre-pregnancy weight.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
