Although I've gone from 308 and down to 178 as i weighed myself today, I feel like a Goodyear blimp! I just don't feel like myself. I am extremely proud of where I've come from but I just don't feel like it's good enough! Has anyone else felt down like when you look in the mirror you don't see your skinny self but the old you still? I hope this feeling passes soon!

I attend a bariatric support group. The psychologist there said it could take some time before you see yourself as you are now. Your mind, she said, still sees the old you and needs to be re-trained.

Sounds weird but then again I don't see much difference in myself when I look in the mirror and I've lost over a hundred pounds...

Yes I often feel down. I have been getting a lot of compliments from coworkers on my weight loss and how different I look. I really don't see it. Yes I can notice clothes not fitting and I am able to pull my jeans on and off with out unbuttoning them. But when I look in the mirror I just don't see it. Hoping that changes though. I am determined to lose as much as I can during the first 6 months of my sleeve. I wish you luck in your journey. Keep your chin up and try to be positive with your eye on the goals you set for yourself!! Good luck!

I'm pre-op, but I have in the past lost significant weight and had the same feelings.

This time I'm arming myself with a good reality check tool...it's this website called mybodygallery.com, and all these women have posted pictures of themselves with their height and weight. It has helped me feel a bit more grounded. You can do a search and see what other women at your height look like at 308 and then go look at women your height at 178. So if you can't see it on you, you can see it on other people. It's very interesting too, to see the different shapes everyone comes in. And...I have to say, I've really gotten to a place in my head that I can see the beauty in ALL the body sizes.

btw, from 308 to 178 is a significant accomplishment! Good job! Love yourself for it! :)

If you still have a pair of your old jeans, just get them out and try them on and your self esteem will slowly change. Another idea is to take a current icture of yourself and visually compair it to a picture before the weight loss. Pictures don't lie and you will be amazed every time you compare the photos how far you have come. It's hard to see a true vision of yourself in the reflection in the mirror. Stop worrying about losing weight and what you look like! Make a fitness goal and concentrate on working towards that goal. Change your focus from your weight and appearance to other things you want to achieve in life and when you feel down occasionally, try on those jeans or compare those pictures!

Thank you for that idea! Unfortunately right now I still just don't feel it :/. I've been so weigh focused my whole life and worry what everyone thinks about me. Most days I'm so happy with myself but today I'm just not feeling it!

Holy moly! You look awesome... You have done such a great job. Give yourself a pat on the back and give it time to sink in. You are almost half the person you were before. Focus on things aside from the numbers... How do you feel? What can you do now that you couldn't before? How much more fun is it to shop? Congrats on all of your hard work.

Thank you so much! I love shopping! It's an awesome feeling asking if they have a size medium shirt in the back or a size 10 short or pants! I loved going summer clothes shopping and buying bikinis for vacation with my boyfriend! I used to wear a 24 and a size 3x shirt! Yeah I really need to focus on other things besides the number on the scale! Thank you for the support!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
