How did this surgery compare with having the band put in? I am doing the same thing tomorrow, all in one surgery.

My surgery date is set for June 19th. I'm pretty nervous about a few things. I've never had surgery or been put under so that makes me apprehensive. I'm looking forward to losing weight but it doesn't seem real yet. I meet with the surgeon in May and that's when I find out what my pre op diet will be. Just overall excited but also a little nervous. Anybody relate?

You will be fine I had my surgery on the 28 th of may all I remember was going in and waking up,

Oddly... Lol... Felt the sleeve was a piece of cake! I've had no problems. No nausea or pain. Just uncomfortable where the port was taken out. Just focusing on staying hydrated and getting Protein in and taking as many naps as I want. :) Popscicles are a life saver. I had bad dry mouth after band and when I learned I couldn't even get ice chips with sleeve until after swallow test the next am I was worried... And for no reason. Different hospital, different anesthesiologist and no dry mouth. You can 'brush your teeth/mouth' to refresh yourself but no swallowing!

I will be thinking of you!!! Very proud of you!

You get hungry? Really?? Hmmm how big did your surgeon make your sleeve?

Regular size I guess, lol. I'm just a food lover! Although had a small forkful of cottage cheese and was full. Sipping Minute Maid light lemonade, OMG to die for!!!

I can't believe how fast the time is speeding by. Friday morning the 14. I'm surprisingly calm considering how my family is so worried. I know they are just comcerned about me but as I keep telling them, I've done the research and I'm commited to making this change.

My two week liquid fast starts tomorrow. Doctor-prescribed Optifast. My surgery date is June 27th. It's feeling really REAL now and words don't convey the myriad of emotions I'm experiencing.

This past week, I've enjoyed a little bit of every type of food I love. Burgers, Chinese, Mexican, you name it, and tonight was was sh'oll nuff "death row" eatin' (lol)... but right now, knowing that starting tomorrow, the process to shrink my liver before surgery and remove the top layer of fat from my stomach...followed by a surgery that will change my life forever... has me in a contemplative and reflective mood. I'm not sad, but a part of me is a little anxious about the unknown.

Sure, I can read all of the testimonials and stories, but mine will be different. That's why I'm deep in thought I guess. What will my story be? I'm excited about the future, and I can't wait to embark upon this journey, but I won't lie and tell you I enjoyed the milkshake I had tonight. :) Cheers to the next several weeks to liquids!

Salud!

Hi! Getting sleeved on June 18th with Dr. Kim in the Dallas area. It's really reassuring to know there are so many other people going through this right now! I started my liquid BariEssentials preop diet Tuesday and I didn't think it would be this hard D: and I have three weeks of liquids post-surgery, although at least I can choose a brand and get some different flavors then.

Worth it, though!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
