Can't exercise! How to not gain weight?

Recommended Posts

I had an accident and can't exercise until at least February. I am so close to my goal and so afraid of gaining 20 pounds before then. Anyone have any tips or help?

I'm in the same situation except that I haven't been banded yet. I broke my knee cap 11/8 so I won't even be out of my brace when I'm banded on Monday - in fact I have to wear it until the 21st. Then I assume there will be therapy so all my exercise plans are out the window and I've come up with a new plan. I am going to try to do Pilates - at least that'll get me toned.

If you guys are seing a physical therapist, they can surely recommend something that you can do. there are chair exercises but if you have a back injury that is something different. Ask your doctor to be on the safe side of things. Good Luck

Wellll, hear is what I did. I was on my way to being in a wheel chair. on/off I hated it. Therapist asked me if I could sit in a chair? Yes!

Then excercise in the chair. It's not much, but she told me to use Soup cans as weights. I worked on my waiste, twisting, bending to one side with the soup can down in my hand as if it were a weight. "whew", squeeze the Buns, stretches, almost any thing. Even leg lifts. It helped alot. My knees still hurt, but at least I can walk some. Shirley

I agree, a Physical Therapist or Occupational therapist can help you. They can show you some exercises that will not hurt you, but help you heal.

And I know that you do not want to gain weight, but please remember that you are healing and that is the most important thing right now. If you do gain a few pounds, don't sweat it, you will get them off when you are able.

Just try and eat healthy and get better. You don't want to over due it and hurt yourself and you end up being hurt for even longer.

Take care and I hope you have a speedy recovery. I'm so glad that you are able to "tell" about accident.

My neighbor and his wife were in a car accident coming home from Thanksgiving. A deer ran out in front of them and he tried to miss the deer, swerved and flipped thier SUV. She was dead at the scene, he survived. It is a sad story and I can't keep thinking about the survivors guilt he has.

Okay, sorry to ramble on.

After my surgery my mu;tiple sclerosis symptoms came back...that meant not being able to walk and severe spasms all the time even with meds. I am finally getting better and can walk again with a bit of difficulty. Still have some spams. But i did do what ever i could while sitting down. moving my arms, isometric exercises, gentle sstretching, Moving anything i knew I could Not hurt...i have not lost, but I have not gained since then. I hope by next week I can start to do some moderate exercise. always ask your doctor!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
