Our doctor's may be a good source to get names. I would like people experienced with our issues. I'm thinking we might need to go one of our houses if we want to talk candid to a guest speaker. I don't mind hosting something like that. We might have success on a Saturday morning.

I'm a little hesitant about the psychlogist only because they could only talk in generalities. They would have to know our buttons in order to help us as individuals. However, they could give us some pointers on dealing with issues.

There are all kinds of speakers. You can have a guest walk you around a grocery store helping you to make good choices, etc.

There are two orgs in the area OA and TOPS. I saw their meeting announcements in the local paper. OA would probably understand our emotional issues more than TOPS. It might be worth a visit just to see what its about. They meet at 10:30 at the church across the street from La Villa on Saturdays. I can't go this week, but might check it out in the future.

Anything we can do to help ourselves is a move in a positive direction.

You are right! We are bright. I guess we are just getting to know each other. My goal is as soon as I get well, I'm going for a fill. That's my goal. I just read that my stomach should only hold about 1/4th cup of food. I can hold way more than that. I think that's about what you ate of your enchilada Betsy:) If that much.

I might go to that OA meeting. If I do, I'm not telling them I'm banded, per your advice.

Lana-I'll bet it was more like 3/4 of a cup. I ate all the cheesy sauce around it too....all the fatty stuff! :-)

I'm going to change something in my home. I get tied up with paperwork and dogs and whatever other excuses I have, and I don't get to the gym as often as I think I need to to make it a well ingrained habit. I'm going to go to classes so I have a specific time and activity planned, and on the days there is no specific class, I'm going to build my daily schedule around a specific gym time. I'll look on Sparkpeople and on the 24 hour fitness site and look for other ideas too. I really want the gym to be a daily thing, on weekdays. Anybody have any ideas to help?

Should I bring the lap band recipe book to a meeting? Anybody want to see it?

I want to see the recipe book.

I went yesterday to "A New U" - it is a Curves type place here in Dayton. They are running special for teachers so I think I am going to join. I did 24 hr. Fitness for a while and loved it but it was not practical to drive all the way over and I stopped going after a while.

Good morning ladies. Did not make it to the gym yesterday. I was all dressed and ready to go but my sister called me from Reno and talked for about 45 minutes. After that I was out of the mood.

See what I`m talking about. It`s hard to get to the gym, but once I`m there it all good.

Maybe next time I will make it all the way there.

Does anyone work out at Ballys in Humble?

Suzanne.

I had never been either. Then my back cratered. I went in totally skeptical, and he made me feel like a million! I'm amazed. Michael Davenport on FM 1960 in Atascocita. Go past 24 hour fitness, and look on the right for the Vietnamese Noodle Restaurant. He's a few doors down. I understand other chiros have fancier equipment. But he has magic hands.

OK. In my neverending Quest to overobsess about bandster life, I have a new idea. I threw all my veges in a pot with Water and made vegetable broth. Then I blendered it all. I have a broth, but just a tiny bit thicker...I used alot of water so it's almost thin enough to be a broth. So...I figure if I alternate between this and water to get my fluids, I'll be getting a whole lot more veges in my diet, and I'll be drinking something flavored without sugar or artifical sweetener. What do you think...or what flaw am I missing?

Hi Cyndie

Tell me about the rice cakes. How nmuch do they have of saturated fats? Sugar/sweetener? How many carbs and Protein grams? They sound interesting.

I looked at the Activia yesterday. I can't remember why, but there was some reason i couldn't do those, but I got some of the Dannon Fit & Light smoothies and they are good.....

I just read on another thread about a minister who wants there to be a complaint-free world. He gives away arm bands that say that on them. The deal is that if you complain, you have to swtich the band to the other arm. The goal is to keep the band on the same arm for 21 days, essentially to start a new habit. In case you want to join me, I ordered enough (free) for all of us.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
