Stepping into healthy habits again

Recommended Posts

I did it. I joined a gym again. I also made a gym date with one of my good friends for next Monday morning. I am going into the gym tomorrow for a fitness evaluation and a planning session for my workouts with one of the trainers (whom I will see monthly going forward).

Baby steps - my initial goal is to get in twice a week - more is bonus, but it takes the pressure off a bit while I get back into the routine. But get back into it, I will. I want to be as strong as I can be before surgery, and I suspect that building up my muscle mass now won't hurt my weight loss post-surgery, either!

The tier I joined has access to most of the group classes, trainer sessions once a month to keep me moving along and make sure my exercise routines don't get stale. They would also do nutritional guidance if I want it, though I think I'll skip that for now - I have a pretty good "playbook" for that already, heh.

Wish me luck!

Congratulations... it's a positive beginning. Remember not to overdo take it one day at a time and enjoy what you're doing. Three weeks to make a habit, 3 days to break a habit. So remember that consistency is what it's all about. It's a marathon not a sprint. The best of luck to you.

Good for you!!!! :)

taking that first step, calling the gym, thats great!!! :)

it always helps when you exercise with someone!! :)

and yes you are right building up my muscle mass now won't hurt my weight loss post-surgery, either!

exercising is also great "mentally" makes you feel better about yourself - you "get out there" seeing/meeting other people too :)

can you do an extra 30 minutes on the eliptical for me???

i'll try and get back to the gym "next week"

only kidding - i go to the gym, but i should go more often :(

you know, "do as i say, not as i do"

take care

luck, luck and more luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
