need2bthin! 235 Posted April 26, 2013 My NUT told me after surgery I would need to consume 60g of Protein a day, and that most patients chose Unjury. What is the best Protein Shake in your opinion? I am looking for something really good because I'm worried about losing hair. Thanks guys!!
cbd 78 Posted April 26, 2013 I used Unjury pre op by was not able to tolerate it postop. I like zero Isopure. 16 oz bottle has 40 gm of Protein. It is a clear liquid.< /p>
newat52 1,613 Posted April 26, 2013 unjury is a good product. It's not overly expensive and I like the the chocolate, vanilla and unflavored. I did get the chicken broth and used it a few times but I like my hot things hot and cold things cold. The Soup can not be heated above 140 degrees so for me it was luke warm at best. I use the chocolate to make a mocha. The first few weeks after surgery I would use the chocolate and take my left over cup of Decaf and put in the blender and make a mocha. After a week I could add skim milk and that is yummy. I can have regular coffee now so that is even better. I use the unflavored in sugarfree Jello and unflavored or chocolate to spike sugarfree pudding. Great way to get good Protein in those early weeks. There are several other kinds of Protein that you can get in those early weeks. Isopure is probably the best protein bang for the buck. It's considered clear liquid and comes in lots of flavors. Has 2 grams of protein per oz. You can get it at most health shops and on Amazon. Also nectar, Protein Powder is very light tasting and again on the the clear liquid phase so it gives you some different choices than the protein shake. Hope this helps! Good luck! rootie3 29 Posted April 26, 2013 The Unjury chicken broth was really good!
southernsoul 773 Posted April 26, 2013 I don't want to have to rely on shakes post op, so I've already started playing around with adding Protein Powder to regular foods, like newat52 did with pudding. The other night I added about 3 Tbsp of unflavored powder to a baked sweet potato with a little brown sugar & butter. It was yummy!
lsereno 2,525 Posted April 26, 2013 If you are lactose intolerant post-op as I was, unjury is great. It was the only Protein powder I could tolerate at first. I only tried it in unflavored (I could taste it and didn't like it) and the chicken Soup flavor. It was nice to have something savory. After I could tolerate a little lactose, I mostly drank the Gold Standard whey Protein available through GNC. My fav flavor was the vanilla Creme. I drank it with soy milk. I flavored it with Starbucks instant Decaf coffee for a change. Lynda
JustSayMoe 163 Posted April 26, 2013 unjury is great, but it always seems to clump up bad. nectar is very similar to Unjury in terms of Protein, taste, and calories. I like the taste of nectar better. Fuzzy Naval and caribbean cooler are two of my favorites. Nectar clumps but not as bad as Unjury IMO. Of course both of them are not shakes! They are more like stirs. You shake them and you will have a foamy mess.
need2bthin! 235 Posted April 26, 2013 Thanks everyone for the help!! But I noticed someone on here said that our taste and what you able to tolerate changes after surgery. So do you recommend waiting till after surgery to buy Protein Shakes? I was going to purchase some to have for after surgery.

In my case, my tastes are no different than before. The only noticeable change in my taste buds is I crave spicy food more. All of the old Protein tastes the same as before. newat52 1,613 Posted April 26, 2013 I agree with JustSayMoe, some folks talk about changing taste buds after but mine are the same as before. I still like what I like and don't like what I don't like. That said, I have not craved breads and carbs but that is most certainly because I have not had any refined sugars or processed flour products in months so the cravings are gone, and I'm going to keep it that way for as long as I can! :-)
JustSayMoe 163 Posted April 27, 2013 Really nothing has changed other than my weight and the fact that I can't eat much anymore. My bathroom habits are the same. I don't have acid reflux or heartburn. Everything is exactly like before with bodily function. This is what sold me on VSG vs gastric bypass, DS (what my surgeon suggested), and lap band. Doudenel Switch is like a VSG and bypass combined. It would have probably cured by diabetes day one, but it has really bad side effects. From what I've heard, it's like trading one disease for another.
