Seems as though my capacity is DECREASING?

Recommended Posts

I really try not to be fixated on food but I have noticed something these past two weeks or so.

It seems like I can eat less, instead of the slight increase I expected. I'm fine with that, I'm getting plenty of calories as it is and fluids don't seem to be an issue so its fine but I just feel like its strange. When I started on solid foods I was getting about 4-6 ounces down pretty easily but now, a little more than 90 days out I'm having to push a little to get in 3 ounces. I don't think anything as changed as far as my chewing habits. I'm not sure if this is really a problem or not. Anyone experience that?

Yes me too. It seems that the more time that passes I can eat less and less. The same with liquids. I can swallow less now than the very first week. Then I hit a stall that lasts what seems like forever and I can't

imagine why what with the food decrease and all. Even foods that go down easy ( like sweets etc ) have become

difficult.

Very strange.

my weight loss had slowed for a few weeks but its picking up again pretty rapidly due to the calorie drop

It is just due to your stomach re-adjusting itself after the surgery.

Glad u brought that up! I'm about 105 days out and it seems my intake with food & Water is less tolerable. I'm more surprised that its with water too. I hope some vets can weigh-in on this issue.

I was pretty well read on this surgery but I didn't really expect this. It's not a problem at this point, just an observation I thought I would share.

I'm almost 2 years out and some days I can only eat tiny little bits all day and others I can eat what is normal. I don't know why that is but its ok with me.

I am nearly 6 months out. Can only eat one meal a day, about 2ozs of Protein and sometimes it doesn't stay down. Nearly ready to just give up on eating completely. I drink lots of Fluid but my stomach hates food.< /p>

How do you get in your nutrition? With Protein shakes? Now this surgery is scaring me. I don't want to live my life without eating or painful eating.

Just curious...

It's important to be informed of all possibilities but you need to remember that is not the typical result, and is FAR from common....

Yikes, what does your surgeon have to say about that?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
