I live in Texas and I looked into Dr. Alvarez as well. He's closer to me, has a great reputation and he communicates with his patients all the time- which I love! I also loved how he has an annual reunion! I would love to meet up once a year and reunite with fellow sleevers, but once again the money issue. So, I researched some more and came across Dr. Aceves, who is about the same price as Alvarez. They offered the payment plan, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to go to a great doctor AND be able to afford it! And then my car breaks down. Realistically I need to save as much money as I can so I can replace it. So, I'm back to looking at surgeons in the 5,000 price range again.

FYI I was sleeved 3 weeks ago and it was $8750 - not $10,500. I understand that may still be out of reach but thought I'd share. I booked a couple of months before so maybe his prices went up. I'm not sure. He does have a financing company he works with I believe.

I guess I should have added that this price was with me having a revision from band to sleeve. They do have finance companies that they do work with like many of the other doctors but no longer are offering the in house financing due to not receiving payments in a timely manner per Nina. That was disappointing as thats who i would have gone with but one bad apple can always ruin the bunch.

Dr Acceves did my sleeve three weeks ago. He was amazing' date=' the care was amazing and dr. Campos who is the dr. In charge of aftercare was amazing. One of the doctors was in to see me every 4-6 hours for the entire time. They did tests and came in over the weekend - unheard of elsewhere.

 

If I used the call button a nurse was there in less than a minute every time. I was happy for the three days in the hospital. I was textbook perfect in terms of recovery, walking the evening after surgery and able to keep liquids down easily. That said I would not have wanted any less time in the hospital. I would have been fine but the extra day was good and I certainly could not have gone shopping or wandering that day. It really is major surgery and I wouldn't have had the energy.

I also went to Dr.Aceves. I had my band to sleeve revision March 22/13. I picked him because of his experience, but also because of the longer hospital stay. I am glad I did and it was the perfect amount of time in hospital for me. I wouldn't have wanted to leave sooner. I have had several other surgeries in Mexico (band, plastics) and in Canada (c-sections, 1 week stay with each which felt like forever, gallbladder) and had a great experience with Dr.Aceves and his staff. If I had to choose again, I would make the same choice.

My wife, who is a OR Nurse with over 25 yrs experience is from The Philippines. She also worked in Singapore before she came to The USA (Miami). Now she works at the VA. She has seen surgeons from all over the world. And she says there are three types of good surgeons. The ones who are technically well trained, and the very special ones who were given their hands from GOD. And the real special ones who are BOTH. Since Dr ACEVES is a proctor for Johnson & Johnson (admitally being PAID to train other surgeons to use J & J instruments) I would suggest that he is one of the really special ones. All that being said, my selection of Dr ACEVES had more to do with combining my "surgery vacation" with a real estate "scouting" trip to the Prescott / Flagstaff area of Northern AZ which I have selected as the perfect "relocation spot" given location, weather, and quality of life. Lastly, I think most of the surgeons discussed on this site are well trained. Obviously they have chosen this type of specialty surgery because there is a DEMAND for WLS from a HUGE (no pun intended) from across the border. And I assume most of these surgeons do very well financially. Also I think it is safe to say that the ones frequently mentioned on this site are the ones who have floated to the top. MY surgery will be this month (May 28) with Dr ACEVES.

I think the question was answered but Dr. Garcia uses sutures and Titanium staples...You have to take into consideration that there are HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of Dr. Garcia patients...If he was doing doing something wrong you would've heard about it by now...I think people get it twisted when they hear a doctor that charges more is better....WRONG WRONG WRONG...one shouldn't pick a doctor because he is cheaper WRONG WRONG WRONG...My choices were dr. Ponce de leon, Dr. Garcia, Dr. Alvarez....I went with Dr. Garcia for numerous reasons but I still think the other surgeons are GREAT...

In the US i was going to be a self pay..and it was broken down like this...3200 surgeon...1500 anesthesia..8500 the hospital......that was the cost for a 3 day stay in the hospital..and the hospital isn't at all great..but they have a website...hospitals in the US have yo overcharge to pay for other who are treated without insurance

 

 

Just adding..its about 3-5 grand to stay 1 night at a hospital..where does the 3000 cost of titanium staple fit into the US price i was given?

Were you a lapband to gastric sleeve revision??

 

I am a lapband to sleeve revision and he (Dr Aceves) would not do my surgery for less than $10,500

Sorry - i was a virgin sleeve - no revision. The additional cost makes sense I guess based on that.
