need fill advice

Recommended Posts

hi my name is gina, i have a 10 CC band and heres my dilema, i was banded at the end of june, and i have had 3 fills since then and have am at a total lost of 37 pounds, with my third fill i felt restricted with the final number of 4.8 they had put in my band, mind you this is the first time i ever felt restriction, well i went on my my liquids after my fills etc, then i went to my solid foods like were supposed too and at first i didnt have any issues with small things i even remember having a CORN dog and not having issues and some tacos. well anyways following the first couple days i began to have issues i had issues eating steak and chicken with ANY type of veggie, i got really frustrated and discouraged and got some emionally tired of being sick when i would eat that i went back to the DOC and they took out 0.3 CC's so now im at 4.5 and when i eat i dont have a tight (full restricted feeling anymore) but i dont feel any restriction in fact AT ALL and so i dont know what to do, i am calling my nutionristionst again to discuss this with her tommorw (well the person that does my fills) she said she was glad i had some taken ouut so i could eat normal food, buut i dont know i just dont get this! we want restriction right? so then when we get it we have issuues?

im just kinda overwhelmed confused feelings with fills atm, if anyone has any insite they could share that would be great, i love my band i want restriciton but i dont want to have to PB everytime i eat a solid meat,

thanks-gina :clap2:

there certainly is a fine line between restriction/no restriction isn't there? I dont' feel restricted hardly ever...but with me it all comes down to me doing my bit and making the best food choices I can...I try to have 3 meals a day...minimal/careful snacking and get aggressive exercise 4 days a week. I am still loosing weight...but I can't rely just on the lapband...it lets me down too often..I have to rely on myself.

You're right...restriction does not equal PB's all the time. So, you'll just need to keep plunking away at tiny fills until you find a level that works for you. Plus, I like that you're talking to your nutritionist because perhaps there is some tweaking you can do to help you feel more satisfied so that your current level of fill works better. You seem to have a good game plan!

I have heard that some people have had .10 removed or added to get to their sweet spot. 4.8 may have been too full and 4.5 may not be full enough. Try having the Dr. put .15 back in. Your perfect spot is there, at least now you know its somewhere between 4.5 and 4.8.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
