I need to lose 30lbs in 3 months! HELP!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

This has been a long road of waiting...and more waiting... and more waiting!

I finally had my consultation with my surgeon on April 11th (after waiting 6 months) and everything went well. He told me I'm an excellent candidate for the sleeve, BUT he wants me to lose up to 30 pounds before our next visit to show him I'm motivated and serious about this surgery.

Now, I have no problem with putting in the work because I have been successful before. But after I had my son last year I tried for over 5 months to lose weight. I was going to weight watchers, hiring a personal trainer, had blood work done etc because I only managed to lose 3 pounds!!!!

So my fear is that I won't lose enough in that amount of time and he won't see me again.

Can anyone tell me if starting a shake diet might help? Like maybe having shakes for two meals and then a nice healthy dinner would be safe? I want to lose weight but safely because I will be having surgery in a month after our meeting and want to be as healthy as possible!

Thanks in advance

Sheena :-)

Eliminate soda and pasta/bread/rice that will be a huge help. Increase your Protein to 65+ grams of healthy protein.. Eat less calories, work out a bit. Drink lots of Water.< /p>

Thanks for the replies!

I have decided to do two premier Protein shakes a day and have a lean green supper.

I haven't had pop in 2 weeks and that was the hardest thing ever! Diet Pepsi is my crack... But after the first week it has gotten better and better. I have also managed to drink 70oz of Water a day where I was lucky to have 20z Iol.

I feel better and have noticed I haven't had heart burn in a while and that seemed to plague me every day!

Thanks for the support! Hopefully I will join you guys on the other side in August!

If you haven't already, work on taking smaller bites and chewing each bite 20-30 times each. What'll happen is that you'll eat slower and feel full before you finish your plate (vs the other way around) or you'll get tired of eating before the plate is empty. Eating slower has caused me to not eat at much at each meal and is helping me lose weight. I've lost 30 pounds pre-op. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
