Hello everyone, I've been away for a long while. My all time low was 165 lbs one year ago. I'm currently at 185 and this effing sux. I am doing a reset; I'm back to 700 cals a day, minimum 30 mins cardio a day, and <30g carbs a day, >65g Protein. Does anyone know if doing a "reset", going back to post-op eating, works? I went through a depression for a few months, had some terrible things happen in my life, and allowed useless carbs back into my life along with stopping exercising.

So, I'd like to know if a reset works because not only do I want to get this excess 20 pounds off, I want to actually make it to goal!

Hello Globetrotter,

I can so relate to your post. I can only suppose what you intend to do will certainly work --if you can carry it through. I wish you the very best.

I am Bookleen and I am back on this forum after approx an 18 month absence.

I have just "celebrated" my 3 year sleeve "birthday". My birthday present from me to me is getting back on this VST forum!

Well I would love to join the " vets forum" but I am not eligible for a couple of reasons.

Firstly I never quite reached goal. I lost weight for the first 7 months and then hit a plateau for the next 7 months even though I thought I was continuing to do things right. I was still weighing regularly and generally obsessing about not losing weight. After being on that plateau for 7 long months I drifted away from VST and also stopped weighing myself as often, and then decided that I would live my life "like a normal person" and stop obsessing about food, weight etc etc.

Well, now I am back, surprise, surprise.

I enjoyed myself in the past 18 months and have every confidence that I will be able to lose the additional weight I gained and also go all the way to goal if I put my mind to it.

I have gained 7 lbs in the past 18 months and I also would like to lose the last 13 lbs to reach goal. That means I now have a total of 20 lbs to lose.

The second reason that I cannot join in the "vets forum" is that I have not enough posts. One needs 100 to join in. When I was at the initial stage of weight loss I used the name "Booklean" and clocked up some posts on that name. However, when I changed my PC and had problems logging on, I had to re-register.

Now, my ambition is to stay on VST and be accountable. I intend to log on regularly and hopefully frequently and give an account of my "doings"--- the good, the bad and the ugly, but hopefully it will turn out to be more good than bad.

I am in no rush to lose those 20 lbs. However, I will set myself a goal of Christmas 2013.

Would you like to join me?

Bye for now,

Bookleen

I too am also at 3 yr surgiversary. I have gained about 13 lbs over the past year/year and a half. I've tried "reset" - I'm not sure it exists. Really. You can get the sugar/carb thing under control by "reset" and back to a normal eating pattern but as to the old "lose, lose, lose" matra I had and quickly! It ain't there. (in southern slang!) Lol Simply put, from what I've researched, we need to eat less calories than a person who hasn't lost over 10% of their total body weight and didn't ever really yo yo diet (strictly speaking - normal) to MAINTAIN at the same weight as they do. Example, 1650 calories for me it shows with some exercise should allow me to maintain but it doesnt. Reality is more like 1300 or so. So we are going to have to get our heads wrapped around the fact that it is a LIFETIME GOAL and not a quick fix! As we were told, it's a TOOL. And I've discovered that for myself! lol Good luck! You are back on track and that's what counts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
