Too Stitch Or Not Too Stitch??

Recommended Posts

One of the surgeons in Dr. Madan's office told me that they stitch the band in place. I read that causes erosion...do anyone know???

I think that's what all surgeons do now, it greatly reduces the rate of slippage from what I heard and read. I don't know if it increases the risk of erosion.

I agree, they may have been talking about stiching your incisions up. I had mine glued with that purple stuff and a friend of mine had her's stapled and my scars look much better. The small one's are hard to even see and the port scar looks much better than her stapled scars.

He said that they fold a small piece of the stomach and stitch it over the band some kind of way. He wasn't referring to the incisions...

My dr stitched me...i think it is pretty standard these days... but I cant help with whether it causes erosions though...so far i haven't had any problems.

That's good that you haven't had any problems...I haven't gotten my approval yet. I should know something by next week.

There are two methods of stitching, one "wraps" a piece of the stomch aound the band the other does not. (pars flacida sp?)The "wrap" method is newer from what I gather. I will see if I can find more info and get back here.

Edit: more info, this is the best description I can find.

Yes they have to stitch it into place so that it doesn't slip. I knew what he was asking, I was just giving additional info since I'm already banded and know how they did mine.

I read somewhere just the other day that most Dr.'s stitch in place now and it has reduced many of the issues with slippage, just like other people are saying.

I don't think there are any doctors out there that don't stitch it in place anymore. There were way too many complications before. ~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
