I am a pre-op. I have been watching all the videos, and very few say they are in a lot of pain, however, it is major surgery. Can anyone weigh in on the level of pain post op ?

Honestly it's my belief that it varies so much between people. For me, it was a walk in the park compared to c-section recovery. It just depends on your personal pain tolerance and your past experience with pain. I walked every three hours the afternoon and all night 1st day and didn't feel any pain besides the gas pain. Gas pain was the worst part for me. Everyone is different though. To someone else who has never had surgery it might have been really hard, and that's okay too. That's just IMHO.

No regrets!!! Pain on the second day was all gas!! I didn't walk enough!!! Walk walk walk... It breaks up the gas!! But I had two c sections and this was a walk in the park comparatively!! But I got better drugs then!! Haha

For me it wasn't so much of pain..it was the nausea and the bloating gas pain! My Dr said those 2 things would be hell! After that it was the weakness...having no energy was a bummer! Everyday will get better...but for me the first 2 weeks were really bad!

I know there are others who have had far different experiences, but I had completely manageable pain post-op. By the second evening after surgery, I had taken my last pain medication. In contrast, with other surgeries I have had I had far worse pain. I will say that someone pointed out to me that it might be because with at least one of those I was very sick for a while leading up to it. But this was a breeze for me. And yes, I know how lucky I am!

not to discourage I have 3 children but I feel the pain was more annoying maybe cause I never had a c section but it was horrible the nausea the light headed ness, the chest pain it's a lot of things all at once but just like everything else it's just a matter of days 5 days outs I was like nothing ever happened :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
