Anybody Used Xenical?

Recommended Posts

I was on Xenical a while back (for a very short time due to the orange oil -- not to be confused with the stuff you clean with!). I don't remember the exact way they described this lovely side effect, but it was one of those things where as soon as you read the side effects, you knew you were in for something that was not going to be pretty. I just cannot remember how they described it.

I had similar problems with Wow! potato chips -- the only difference was that it gave me a helluva bellyache and it wasn't orange -- just oily and always at the most embarrassing times!

My doc gave me a script for phentermine. I take one every other day. I can tell when the capsule dissolves as I get a bit chatty for about a half an hour.

Does your surgeon know that your PCP is wanting to put you on a diet pill??!! If you are using your band properly and eating properly, you are going to lose weight.....our days of pills and 'dieting' are over!

:xena_banana: Oh my God--the Xenical is not worth it! I also had some very embarrassing moments with uncontrollable "leakage". I don't think you should waste your money. I was afraid to go anywhere in public! It was disgusting!

That's just nasty. Why would anyone want to put themselves through that?

Just my two cents, by band works wonderfully and I have not experienced hunger since getting it. And, after reading this thread, I am truly, truly more thankful than ever for that!

My husband uses phentermine. You can order it online for about 120.00 for two months supply. He's lost 60 pounds since I had my surgery and I've just lost 55 pounds since banding. Go figure, he got off a lot cheaper than I did.

Ah, the orange oil... I know it well. My husband thought it was totally cool and would get mad when I would flush without calling him in to see it. (Yes, he's gross). If you'd like to pee orange oil out of your a**, then Xenical is for you!

It is the reason I stopped taking it, and also, weight loss is minimal, at best.

If you work the band the right way, you definitely don't need Xenical.

I took Xenical for a while, and couldn't tell it did a thing at all for me. I also tried Meridia, which made me exhausted and sleepy. I would have to come home and take a nap after work each day. I felt like I was back in the early stages of pregnancy. I also took Phentermine, and I only felt like it worked for the first week or two.

But guess which one of you will keep it off? I took Phentermine on and off for several years. It works great...only problem is my body became so used to the medicine and it was no longer effective. Even after being off the medicine for 6 months to a year, the pill was still not as effective.

Terrilen you summed it up!

I had a boyfriend while taking xenical... apparently i tooted a little in my sleep...the smell WOKE HIM UP> of course he woke me up... I said "is everything ok" he replied " i woke you to make sure you were ok... it smelled like you died." I was momentarily embarrassed but had to laugh... at least he cared :straight ..... later used it as a threat... "dont make me oil slick you.... "

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
