Hospital stay how long?

Recommended Posts

I'm sure each Doc is somewhat different but just wondering..

I've heard everything from leaving same day (outpatient) to leaving 3-4 days after surgery. Really seems to vary by doctor and your condition before and after surgery.

I stayed 2 nights, but I think it was more due to me being situated later in the day. For my hospital they officially say 2 nights, but it's not uncommon for it to be a single night stay.

I had my surgery early morning. I stayed 3 days and 2 nights. I pretty much begged to go home. What they are watching for is that you take in enough Fluid. At least that was my situation. Best Wishes

My doc says 1 nite. I spent 1 nite 3 1/2 yrs ago when banded and most people are outpatient. I assumed I'd stay more than when banded, but I guess it's the same. My insurance required a 1 nite stay with the band. I haven't checked to see if they require more time than my doc recommendations. Maybe I should ask?

Does this mean you went home the same day??

I havent had my surgery yet but Im scheduled as an outpatient which means up to 23 hours.

I stayed 3 nights. Surgery was on a Monday afternoon and I checked out Thursday night. This was due to my sleeve being very swollen and I didn't pass my leak test on Tuesday bc of it. They didn't redo the test until Thursday afternoon. Which at that time my sleeve was still very swollen but the contrast was moving better than the 1st test. My surgery was this past december.

I was told that insurance only pre approves for 23 hours - technically making it outpatient but the doctor can extend the stay if needed.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
