This is my first post y'all! :) I just got back from having my sleeve done in Mexico with Dr. Ortiz and Alighterme (I definitely recommend them!). I am 5 days post op and I am eating like a snail. I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia and was vomiting my whole first night and am so paranoid about leaks even though the leak tests were clear. Other than some acid reflux, gas, and mild soreness, I feel great!

I had some general questions and everyone on here is so amazingly kind and encouraging. It's strange to go from researching on this forum to actually commenting as a sleever. I think it's all still sinking in!

-did anyone else have a lot of acid reflux the first couple of weeks? I'm trying to figure out if it happens when I'm "hungry" since I don't really feel hungry or if its because something I drank is coming back up. My doctor told me I could have Protein shakes, broth, liquids, yogurt, and Jello. I've been taking it slow but still dealing with the gas and acid.

-when does the gassiness go away?!

-how likely are you to pop a stitch from eating too much? Can it be caused by the gas and bloating?

Any answers to any of the questions is so appreciated! Good luck to everyone on their journeys!

It is very difficult to pop a stitch, especially since you won't be eating anything for quite some time. Gas and bloating won't affect it. It will take you a good week or two until the gassiness goes away. Gas-X Strips can help as will walking. Acid reflux is a common side effect and should get better as you heal. Hope that helps.

My acid reflux didn't kick in for a couple months. Walking helped me more than gas x strips The gas lasted about 10 days. You are on the downhill side. Congratulations!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
