What if they tell me im crazy?

Recommended Posts

I know I'm not crazy...but I'm waiting to be called to do my psych eval... I already see a counselor... Hopefully they don't deny me... I don't think they will, but it's scary...

Well I know for a fact i am crazy!

And yes I've been in therapy for years ( I used to be super crazy)

They "passed" me... The best thing I can say is don't worry and be honest with yourself and them and all will work out.

You will be fine! My psych evaluation was just talking to the psychological examiner for about 10 minutes and then taking the MMPI (500 questions--multiple choice). Just be honest--they can tell if you are lying.

They really aren't trying to keep anyone from having surgery, but just want to make sure you have the tools to cope with the changes. Hang in there!

Well, I would say be honest and have faith in the universe (or God if you believe) that things will work out the way they're suppose too. You're already seeing a counselor, so you're working on your issues, and that's 90% of the struggle right there. Being aware of the risks mentally and emotionally and putting resources in place to deal with them. As much as we want to be healthy and thin, there is a risk that this surgery will leave us cross-addicted, depressed, or not able to cope, so the psych eval is a God-send, not a punishment.

Just know you'll be able to managed whatever they throw at you. Hugs.

If they say you're crazy, tell them, "You're just jealous cause the voices only talk to me!"

I have to come twice! Once today to take the test and once next week to talk...

That's a lot of questions!

I was scared of the same thing. I was on 4 different antidepressants and see a Phychiatrist once every 2-3 mths. They just want to know that you'll be able to handle all of the challenges that come with weight loss surgery. Mine only lasted about 60 mins and there was no test involved.

I'm happy to report that 4 yrs and almost 100 lbs later (I was banded 3 1/2 yrs ago, moving to revision soon cuz of a slip), I only take 1/2 dose of 1 antidepressant now. No more depression for me!

I agree. Don't lie on the test (if there is one). They can immediately tell.

Marci

Thanks everyone for the support!

It took 2 1/2 hours to finish the 'test' it was 700 questions!

I'll see the examiner next week to discuss!

Ekkkk! All I've got left is the appointment with the examiner, barium swallow, and 1 last nutritionist appointment before sending off for approval!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
