New member. I am 68yo, retired RN.obese,etc. After having the lap band for 3 months I had to have a total right hip replacement. Shortly after recovering from this I was diagnosed w/ lymphoma of the sacrum in the 4 th stage. The pain was so bad that I was admitted to the cancer hospital for 40 days-placed on a morphine drip ,diagnosed w/ SARS (a respiratory infection req isolation, pneumonia, took 21 radiation treatments-discharged home w/ around the clock sitters, bilateral pneumonia again, shingles.urinary tract infection, 105 chemo treatments, lost 40 lbs while in the hospital, I had to learn to walk again, bowel and urine re training---BUT after 2 years I'm in remission.

Now I feel good enough to start w/ my band but I am so embarrased to go back to my lap band MD!!My oncologist kept saying "eat, eat, eat" Now that I have gained up to 244 he is saying "Stop,Stop" or invest in a wheel barrow!

I hope to get some inspiration here. Thanks

You have NO reason to be embarrased to see any doctor for any reason. You are a survivor girl! :clap2: :hail: Your priorities have been correct; stay alive, regain control of your body and rebuild your strength and stamina. I would dare any doctor to criticize you for your weight after the last few years you have been having. It's worth a call to set the appointment, lay out your cards and say that you are now able to turn your attention to the band and you'd like to get checked out and back on track.

Check some threads here for getting remotivated and call on us for support any time you need to. Glad to have you aboard!

Bless your heart you've been through pure hell. I'm so glad your in remission. I agree you shouldn't at all be emabarrassed. You've been through a lot and it sounds like you had your priorities straight and I think now would be the perfect time to get your band up and running. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. My mother was diagnosed with Stage 3 non hodgkins lymphoma (sp) in Feb. 2005 and has been in remission for over a year now. Keep up the faith and give me a yell if you ever need someone to talk with.

Mildred, Holy smokes, what an ordeal you've been through! You are indeed a survivor. I'm glad you found us. This is the place for inspiration, support and motivation. I'm sure your band Dr will understand. You certainly had things other than weight loss on your mind.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
