I'm curious if anybody else has experienced this. I am 6 weeks post op and I have and incision that I think MIGHT be infected. I had a stich underneath the skin that poked through about a two weeks ago. I haven't had any problems with it and when I saw my surgeon for my one month post op he said it was fine, not to pull on it and that it would dissolve from within and the part sticking out would just fall off. Yesterday I noticed some redness and tenderness around the stich but really didn't think anything of it. This morning I woke up and had a little bit of drainage. It is still red, warm and very sore. I've made an appointment with my PCP to be seen but it's not until Monday. Should I call my surgeon and ask for antibiotics or am I just being paranoid and it's just a little irritated? Thanks :)

Go to the dr! I had an infection on one of my incisions that led to me being on an IV pump for 5 days! It started out as a small red warm circle that got a little bigger and a little bigger & ended up draining quite a bit of Fluid. Better to be safe than sorry & end up with a big infection & strong antibiotics that make u feel really yucky!

I would see your surgeon. I am a firm believer in having the surgeon follow-up on anything directly related to a surgery he/ she performed. I think they owe it to the patient to take care of you until surgery related issues are completely resolved. These poor PCPs are getting hammered to do surgeons job & they don't even understand procedure . . They are not surgeons. This is why so many PCPs dread to see us walk into their office.
