I'm dying here...

liquid after liquid im so tired of you! When can I eat a little something?

How soon after surgery can I start on some light solids? I started on yogurt and sorbet before I left the hospital. Will I be doing to much if I started on potatoes mashed or Soups with only being six days out of surgery?

Depends upon your surgeon but that's usually after about 4 weeks.

Yeah ,you should ask your surgeon. Everyone is so different . I as allowed purees when i got home from the hospital.. I was one of the lucky ones,,i guess some doctors want you to lose weight quicker oing only Clear Liquids and shakes. i had no problem but you must eat slow and and a little bit so you can feel when you are full.

Hi Tia:

Congratulations on your surgery! It is not the easiest thing to follow the progression that your doctor laid out, but it is important that you do. Unless told its ok, try not to progress too fast, your new sleeve needs to heal and you need to do your part to make sure that happens. What schedule did your doctor layout?

You can do this, you are stronger than you think!! If you need to mix it up, even on clear liquids you can have sugar free ice pops. They will add flavor and a different texture for you.

Good luck!

Follow your nut & dr guidelines...just hang in there. With my dr, on the 3rd week out, I could have an egg, whole wheat toast, & peanut butter...I felt soooo much better then. I know it is hard; it does get easier. Best of luck to you!

They told me Protein shakes yogurt and other liquids and to gradually move forward to light solids. I'm thinking like Soups and potatoes is what they meant but before I try them I will ask.

Thanks for the encouragement

i would do Soups, soft meats like tuna, canned chicken, eggs, and cheese. Potatoes are fine if you add some unflavored Protein to them, and maybe a little cheese. Just take it slow, eating solid food for the first time feel very strange on your stomach.

Do you like cottage cheese? If they are allowing you to have soft food, it is a good source of Protein. Soups are good but watch the sodium levels. You can also eat cream of wheat thinned with milk when you reach the puréed stage. Fat free refried Beans mashed tasted really good! Try to stay away from things like mash potatoes. Starches are empty calories. Your body needs protein and fluids first when it is so seriously restricted. Good luck! You'll make it through!

I was all liquids for the first 3 weeks, then one week of purées, now I'm into the mechanical soft phase (itty bitty pieces of soft food). Next week I get to start trying real food. I have had no complications at all, so I'm happy with the way things have gone. Those first three weeks were a real b***h to get through, but it was worth it!

I understand your frustration. I have 2 weeks more before I can progress to solids and I'm 8 weeks out today!!!

So, as soon as I can sink my teeth into some soft cheese and my lips around a think slice of deli turkey or chicken, I will be oh so happy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
