I had my surgery done on Nov 28, 2006. I was wondering how long do you think I have to wait before I start drinking alcohol again? Because I'm only 21 and I still want to enjoy my life.:help:

I waited a month to drink alcohol again...I love my beer and wine but beer seems to make me bloated now and puts on the calories whereas a glass or two of wine each day doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

:)

I waited about a month and I've been fine with wine and martinis. No beer though, my doc says absolutely NO carbonation.

i'm a bloke that loves a drink and have found anything that isnt carbonated is fine. I have tried drinking fizzy drinks and it resulted in really intense shoulder pain. I quizzed the doc about it and he said it is a common problem after banding, gas gets trapped under your diaphragm.

hope this is of some help.;-)

I whooped it up this weekend for my birthday, and I didn't drink more than I normally do, but I got wasted I mean fall to the ground wasted very quickly! It is much cheaper now to drink! lol...but I only do it once or twice a year.

Ya that's what happened to my mom. She waited a month and she went to the casino and had 1 gin and tonic and got pretty messed up. I'm a light weight anyway. I'll probably wait 3 weeks. But damn I'll miss chugging beers :)

Yeah, you are a complete light weight after banding. I can't remember how long I waited but it was probably at least a month, maybe longer. I used to LOVE beer - probably part of the reason for the weight gain. I can drink it a little now, but have to let it sit for a bit to settle carbonation otherwise it makes me feel horrible. Generally I stick with wine or mixers now but I rarerly drink anymore.

I had my first glass of wine at Thanksgiving and just a few sips made me feel a little lightheaded. Haven't had anything since.

My dr. told me no carbonation too. Not only can it cause a lot of gas discomfort, he told me it erodes the band. I am pretty sick of Crystal Light, really want a soda. I tried to defizz it but it takes forever.

Good luck, have fun..............but not too much fun ha ha

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
