When do you stop feeling hungry?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on April 17 (last Wednesday) and I feel like nothing satisfies my hunger. I'm already on yogurt and Soups and still hungry. I'm going to start taking Pepcid twice a day instead of just in the morning to see if that helps. Please I don't want the "I had the surgery 6 months ago and am still hungry" responses. Only the "it will be better in about.....". I know pretty picky post lol I just don't have it in me to here anything negative today.

I'm 4 weeks in. While you're on Soups etc you will feel pretty empty and probably want to gnaw on the odd bone or 2! I found it tough and depressing too. Once you can have thicker soups, yoghurt and pureed meat or fish, you will feel MUCH better. That has certainly been my experience. I have only just started to feel more normal in the last week or so because I can have more. Sooooo, hang in there because it does improve and you will get so excited when you can eat a small portion of meat or have some hummus on a cracker. Min

My surgery was the 17th, too. Thanks for asking this question. I LOVE hummus and can't wait to get some! Looking forward to the minced white fish, too. That's in the Purée stage just around the corner!!!

I am 3 months out and I remember being starving for the first couple of weeks. I won't sugar coat it, I still get hungry now. But then I eat something and the hungers gone. So just like before surgery really. It will get better!!!!

I still get hungry, but it's much easier to satisfy, on FAR fewer calories than in the past.

I'm with you I was on the 16th of April. I've been living on sugar free pops. Tomato Soup and Protein Shakes. Wish I could throw a couple crackers in my Soup but hey soon enough right?

I counted down the days till I could have the super super slim cheese slices-maybe they are just air disguised as a cheese slice? and rice crackers etc. It's worth waiting for as they are a taste sensation. And as I said earlier being able to have even a little bit of chicken makes all the difference and stops you feeling as if you are living in a vague haze of hunger and weakness.

Thanks folks! I needed the that! I need to try and be more patient. I'm going to be moving on up to pureed by the end of the week so hopefully then I'll feel a little more satisfied. :)

Try hot tea. It was my savior for so many things. And still is. I will be 9 months out tomorrow!!!:-)

The puree phase is the hardest because you never really know what to eat and it's hard to gauge when to stop eating. To some extent I still have the problem and I am into my 8th week. I am trying to eat healthy and pretty much succeed but I am experimenting with trying some not so healthy things. The way I look at it is that given the amount I am able to eat at a sitting, there is no way I can OD on calories. Had like 4 french fries with my grilled chicken yesterday before being to full to continue. Had 1/2 fajita for dinner last night which felt like a bit too much. Takes time to get to know what your body will tolerate and what it won't but it's all part of the process.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
