Getting water AND protein

Recommended Posts

How does everyone do it? I'm having a hard time getting 64 oz of Water AND 60-80 grams of Protein in. I'm in purée I go back to work next Monday and will be on soft stage. Not sure if I can turn things around in 1 week. Any suggestions?

Try some Isopure. Counts as liquid and each oz has 2 grams of Protein. Or try nectar drinks. They are loaded as well. Getting in liquid is a full time job for awhile so if you can get in some Protein while you are doing it, you get to kill two birds with one stone.

Good luck getting back into the swing of normal life. I'm sure you will do great!

The Isopure is a good idea. And can you not throw a half a scoop of unflavored Protein Powder into your purees?

It will get easier as you progress. Hydration is still the most important right now. American Bariatric makes an orangeade drink that I enjoyed early on and it has 15gms of Protein. (http://store.americanbariatrics.org/Orangeade_p/orangeade-fruit-drink.htm)

There are other protein fortified drinks you could try, you'll be getting your fluids and protein.

Good luck with everything!

I have been using the New Whey Liquid Protein, 42 grams of Protein in 3.8 ounces. Found at wal-mart. I pour almost one ounce of New whey and almost one ounce of Water every 15 minutes till the protein is gone. then I go back to focusing on water or Decaf tea, I have done this 2 times in a day and you have plenty of protein and not filling yourself up. I am only 4 days post op and it seems to be working

Get yourself some Yes Whey (not New Whey) Protein Shots and either shoot them straight or add to your Water. Also, get yourself a sample pack of these and add to your water: http://www.bjsbariatrics.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=bjb&Product_Code=synSamplePack&Category_Code=syn

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
