mrsplusamericajacksonville 21 Posted April 21, 2013 I am a fairly modest person and I have no intention of walking around a public place (hospital) in one of those "gowns". I have packed several long loose gowns and 4 pair of micro fleece pj pants. My question is instead of walking laps around the hospital to remove the excess gas....can I dance????? Will dancing be too much on My system? will it obstruct my drains? will it actually work better than walking? What do you think?
No game 14,437 Posted April 21, 2013 Lol.. Sorry the visual of some lady fresh out of surgery dancing in her room is funny Umm.. Good question though... I walked but in the beginning it was more like a slow zombie shuffle walk type of thing (another great visual) so dancing might be hard. I wore my gown and an extra large zip up sweater to hide my bits from hanging out. Oh and most people on my floor had the same surgery. 3 mrsplusamericajacksonville, MrsG and Kimmy1813 reacted to this
erica6137 50 Posted April 21, 2013 I doubt that they will want you to dance after surgery, I know they will however make you walk 3 hours after surgery and every few hours after. Trust me when I say you will not be worried about what anyone thinks those next 2 days. And you can put on sweats and a t shirt if you'd feel more comfortable. 1 mrsplusamericajacksonville reacted to this

aquitenonnymouse 206 Posted April 22, 2013 They didn't let me change into my clothes as soon as I wanted, but they did give me TWO gowns so nothing was hanging out. It took a few hours for them to let me change into my other (loose) nightgown because they wanted better access to drains, etc, but you can always ask! I was able to change into more comfy stuff the night of my surgery. 3 MrsG, SpaceDust and mrsplusamericajacksonville reacted to this
tmbasuhre 69 Posted April 22, 2013 i wanted underwear and the nurse said sure:) i had them on about 30 minutes and ended up cutting them off with scissors. they were "bunched" up and it was uncomfortable- I didn't want to get back up so my husband cut them off and threw them away lol. I walked a ton of laps but dancing???? could not have danced until about 1 week post op:) 1 mrsplusamericajacksonville reacted to this

I myself had a flawless recovery so far and still could not think about being a teacher a day after surgery. Best of luck on your journey.
tmbasuhre 69 Posted April 22, 2013 No, I couldn't have gone back to work the day after release- physically, i could have gone back in about 1 week but I took 4 weeks off and it was wonderful! I was able to get through the liquid and full liquid part of my diet at home:) got somewhat of a handle on the Vitamin regimen(truthfully, still working on that one). I loved my time off for recovery and feel like it was the best decision for me but I know not everyone has that luxury(my employers offers short term disability after 5 days off of work and I earned 70% of my salary to stay home and recover)

And I too benefited from being able to get through Clear liquids, full liquids, and onto soft/blended foods. I got to be with my family a lot. It helped me a lot. Getting to know my sleeve. Walking and feeling more fit. Also to recharge my work batteries mentally. It was a good call.

Wear the hospital gown. They will be checking ur stomach often for bowel sounds, drainage, and vitals. You will be happy 2 not be restricted 2 a closed in gown. Plus you r going 2 be in the hospital all u will see is scrubs and robes so u won't be out of character. And once u have surgery u may not be up 2 putting on those pajamas. Be comfortable because you can't be sure what ur pain will be. 1 MrsG reacted to this
bethxxx 304 Posted April 22, 2013 I don't think you would be able to dance, I know after surgery I could only walk VERY slowly, more of a shuffle I guess. I just wore loose pajama pants and a very loose shirt.

There's no way I would've been able to dance!! I was lucky just to be able to stand and hang on to my IV stand and shuffle down the corridors!
