Anyone on it? I found out through all of the post op labs that my thyroid isnt working as well as it should be so they started me on it a few days ago. Does it help with weight loss? What are your experiences with it?

I've been on it for 20 years. Didn't help any with weight loss but definitely helps the general tired feeling.

I've been on some form of it (Synthroid, generic, and Armour thyroid) for 30 years. I'm on 137mcg 6 days a week. I finally figured out that the non-generic Synthroid works best for me. There are fillers in the generics that made it difficult to manage my levels, plus I could not guarantee that I was getting the same generic manufacturer every month. I was on Armour for many years because I was reading tons of articles that said that the natural hormone was better. It worked pretty well the first year I was on it, but the formulation changed and it was no longer relieving my symptoms. I had an appt with my endocrinologist last week and she was thrilled with my weight loss. She also said I'll need to get my TSH checked more often until I get to my goal weight. As you lose weight, the amount of Synthroid you need may decrease. I was ok the last time I was checked (1 mth after surgery), but she wants me checked again every 3 months. The great thing is that once I get to goal weight she'll release me to my PCP because she was also monitoring me for pre-diabetes and metabolic syndrome, which I no longer have!

Vicki, how did you take it in the days immediately after surgery? Did you crush it? I keep meaning to ask my endocrinologist....

I missed a few days, but it's a pretty small pill so I just swallowed it. I haven't had any problems with the 2 little pills I take.

I was on Levoxyl for years. During the month of March I was feeling really bad, generalized achyness and flu like symptoms. I finally got labs drawn, and it turns out I was hyperthyroid. So, I stopped taking the Levoxyl, and am hoping that I can stay off of it. It was an unexpected bonus!

I have been on thyroid meds for years now, and it never helped me to lose weight. It never seemed to remain stable either

I have Hoshimoto's which is the thyroid autoimmune disease. I have flares where I swing back and forth between Hyper and Hypo but for the majority I am hypo and so are all of my symptoms. I was on Levo and Synthroid for 6-10 years until last fall when I had enough. I switched to Armour 120mg a day and it has changed my life. Unfortunately, the weight didn't change at all but that is fairly typical at least for women. However, my symptoms, tired, achy, brain fog, lethargic feeling all decreased dramatically…some of them completely. I found a doc who treats by the symptoms not just blood work. Just because you are in the 'appropriate" blood work range doesn't mean that you feel any better. I know for me I am at my best when my blood work comes back at around a 1.5-2.0. Some people do better lower. My doc is not an endo either. She is internal med. I had 4 prominent endos in KC and they all refused to listen and went solely on blood work results not how I felt. Their answer to everything was losing 50 lbs. Well autoimmune disease and thyroid issues typically aren't affected by weight high or low. One key to the success I have with Armour is I chew it up and i take it the same time every night with water… nothing else because it can affect absorption. The nice thing about Armour too is that if you are having a flare you can break a pill in half during the day and supplement so it will counter the flare. Your doc could explain more about that. The best thing I did for myself was research, research, research. http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ is by far one of the best thyroid sites out there. Please check it out. It helped me tremendously. Good luck!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
