mysteries of the band

Recommended Posts

So i have had good restriction for three or four weeks now. I'm starting to notice i can eat quite a bit...at night. I know this has been covered before. I just can't believe that during the day I can't eat but a few bites, even then i often PB, but at night (the last couple nights) I have been able to eat a full meal. I JUST had lunch, only at a few bites, and was afraid i was going to puke in the restaurant. The unfortunate thing about this AM/PM thing is...most of us really need the support at night. It's just like the band allowing you to eat Cheetos, but not meat (i can eat meat, just making a point). When I have bad scale days (like today) I wonder if I should have gone by-pass.

Also, are hot liquids death to the band? I admit I had hot tea with dinner last night as I was so cold.

I don't think hot liquids are a problem. However, I was told to not drink with my meals. Not only because it tends to wash food through the pouch, defeating the purpose, but I found that it tended to kind of clog me up with some foods.

Have you considered a small unfill?

Maybe the hot tea opened you up. Maybe try having something hot to drink before you try and eat lunch. I don't have a particular time I can eat or not eat. I seem to be able to eat all the time, just not as hungry in the morning.

I don't want to unfill. I'm happy when the band is tight, unhappy when it lets me eat a full resturant meal.

I know I am not supposed to drink with meals, I was cheating last night...as the scale reflected this morning. I know some people don't believe in daily weight-ins, but I need to be punished when i'm bad.

Hi~

I am noticing the same thing with my band recently. I finally have some real restriction and I thought today that maybe it was too much b/c I can barely eat all day. Then, I can come home and eat a "normal" dinner. I think my band just loosens up throughout the day b/c I don't even drink hot stuff usually.

Same problem here. Is there anything we can do to reverse the time frame so it will be tight at night and not during the morning? I can't even imagine how much and how fast I could lose if it was like that! My fill Dr. told me that if I didn't eat past 6:30 at night, then I wouldn't be so tight in the AM but that doesn't seem to work for me.

Mine's tight at night and a little iffy in the morning but I can eat plenty during the day. It works well for me, since generally I eat a very small dinner, but for some unknown reason, it gives me a reprieve if I eat out (probably because I usually have a glass of wine) and I never seem to have trouble in a restaurant or anything, yet at home, at times I have put my dinner aside completely becuase I just cant be bothered trying to eat it.

I never ever was a night eater though, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
