Is it normal to feel so different? Like I don't feel like myself......didn't expect that so soon and it's only been 6 days.

Hi buttacup and welcome. Yep - it's almost universal to have these feelings. You'll go thru a lot of different emotions in the days to come. The good news is that you WILL start to feel like yourself again and at some point end up happier and more content than before your surgery. There's no timetable for that and everyone bounces back differently. Just focus on healing and minimizing the stress in your life and it will begin to get better. Some people bounce back quickly and others take a little longer. I'm at 6 weeks now and have just begun to feel normal in the past week or so. Others feel great in a matter of days. Hopefully you'll be one of the quick ones! Stay the course and be patient - you'll get there :)

Your feelings are most likely linked to changes in hormones in your body as a result of the surgery, medicines and change in nutritional intake. As was stated it will most likely get better before you know it and then you will probably feel better then before. If you look through posts here on the site you will find tons of posts of people who went through this right after surgery but then later posts from the same people they are extremely happy and excited about their results. Hang in there it does get better, good luck.

hi and welcome..... Yes it is completely normal. I kind of felt outside the normal me for a few months.... I guess I was one of the slow ones lol! However, now I feel even better than before. For me it felt like there was so much to get used you. But once I was able to make the needed adjustments... Meaning socially, getting into my daily work routines etc. all of the puzzle pieces came together. Then I was over whelmed with the happiness I feel today. You will get there.... Hang on it is a fun ride! Best Wishes Tina

That's exactly how I felt! I am 6 days out and today is the most normal I've felt. I felt like I was living someone else's life. It was weird. Every single day I feel better and more like me. Hang in there!

Can any of you elaborate on what "feeling different" means? I'm preop and curious.

I guess I expected that when I got home everything would be normal. But I was tired. I'm still on Clear liquids and don't have a ton of energy. I was very irritable (from lack of GOOD sleep, getting blood pressure, temp and/or blood taken every 4 hours). I was fuzzy headed from painkillers...the list goes on...

Hi! New to the forum as of right now. I'm five days out since survey feeling normal. I'm still on the same liquids diet ( crystal light, sugar free pop cycles, Juvan, or broth). When does the gas pass and you start to comfortably swallow?

Honestly? Today! I was so depressed yesterday because it hurt so much to swallow, but much better today.

Hi @ antitoni....they keep telling me to walk, walk walk......so I do as much as I can. I realize that drinking to fast gives gas so I started using a spoon and making myself aware of my intake within 15 min. I will tell to slow down drinking and move ur body as much as possible......:-)

Thanks! I knew movement was important, but didn't realize how helpful it is with the gas.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
