I am extremely tired and frustrated. At least two nights a week I awake choking on stomach acid! Tonight it really scared me because it seemed to burn the heck out of my vocal chords! It took at least an hour for the burning to stop. I was literally crying. I had surgery in Mexico so my family doctor has been trying to help me.. First I was on Nexium. That didn't solve the problem so now I'm on Dexilant! I am wondering what else may work.. I am 10 weeks out, I eat the right foods, and I don't eat too late. Now, I'm scared to sleep for fear of choking!! Has anyone else had a similar issue or know of a medication that may help?????

That happened to me once. I ate and about 20 min after fell asleep. I figured it was undigested food and lying down etc. Are you eating late at night?

I had no problems on Prilosec. But if Dexilant isn't working you should maybe ask your dr for an upper GI? Also, sleep propped up! Makes it much harder for the acid to fight gravity ;)

(I use 4 pillows)

Same thing happens to me maybe once every two weeks. I usually just chew a few Pepcid Complete tablets, rinse with Listerine and go back to bed.

I suffered from reflux for YEARS. I used to sleep on five pillows to keep my head raised. Mine was cured when I stopped eating wheat! I used to think that eating crackers or pretzels was helping my acid problem because it temporarily made my tummy feel better, but in reality for ME it was the root of the problem.

Of course this started for you when you were sleeved, but still, I wonder if you have some undetected food issue that isn't helping the matter. You might be eating all the "right foods" for everyone else, but for YOU it could be causing the problem.. Common offenders are wheat and dairy...

Best of luck, I hope you find resolution soon. I know how alarming and painful it can be to wake up with acid coming out of your nose.

I take omniprazle, not spelled right but you get the picture. He started me on 40 mg ans I had him reduce it to 20. It works great. Must take it at least an hour before eating. I usually take it in the early morning really early when I get up to use the bathroom maybe 4 or 5 am.

I have only had acid reflux since having the sleeve. I took omprazonale at night, this is when I had the most troubles. I took it for about 3 weeks and am now better. I always have some on hand though just incase.

I take Nexium every morning, and if I have any other issues my surgeon said to take Pepcid or Zantac in between.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
