Beating yourself up after eating

Recommended Posts

I got my sleeve March 14th and I just started eating what my nutritionist calls "soft foods" (anything that can be mashed with a fork, I guess?) and after being on all liquids for so long, I've been giving myself a hard time about eating; like if I eat "normal" food again, I'll be right back where I was. I know that's not realistic but I still can't shake that "post-eating regret"

Anyone else having dealt with this?

I understand where your coming from, it still messes with my head 5 months out!

I have on occasion eaten things like 1 small piece of pizza and had a major freak out!

We need to know its ok to eat. for the most part keep it healthy but when you are further out its ok to eat something "bad" once in awhile.

Don't beat yourself up. I was sleeved on March 6th, and although I am lucky to say, I have had NO issues with any kinds of food. After starting soft foods, I was so thankful to have "the most delicious tasting" eggs ever!! Then I moved onto chicken, and tuna, much faster than what I was supposed to. I told my doctor, and he said as long as I was tolerating it, it was fine. I am 7 weeks post-op this coming Wednesday, and have lost 40lbs. I feel like I am doing something right, so why not eat the cheese off a slice of pizza, or eat a yummy cheddar pretzel? I know that I've come a long way, way too far to allow this to happen again the only time I ever have cravings is when I'm PMSing, and I've had a tiny milky way, but that seems to all I need. The only carbs and sugars I really eat are in my yogurts. Don't beat yourself up over it. How much have you lost?

I was sleeved on 4/14/13 and I've lost 50 lbs post op but 120 lbs all together (with the pre-surgical liquid diet and such) and I'm tolerating foods just fine... but I just feel like even eating a small bite of whole grain Pasta makes me regretful. I am way WAY too hard on myself

I think you might be a little hard on yourself. But you know, I also think that you sound like you want to do everything "right" and worry about slipping. Being very aware and selective of what you are consuming will ultimately help you. A spoonful of whole grain Pasta isnt' the same as a spoonful of ice cream. You do need some carbs. You'll ease into a more comfortable relationship with food. You are doing so well, I can completely understand not wanting it to stop or change. It's all about the choices you make.

I know for me, one of the biggest reasons I decided on the sleeve was that I wanted to be able to have a spoonful of my favorites at some point. I'm choosing to hold off until I lose the weight I want, but I also know that I do my best when I'm ultra focused. Congratulations on such a great start!! The reality is there isn't a single spoonful of anything that brought us to obesity. You should be so proud of your success!!

Thanks so much! Yeah I'm definitley doing all this "by the books" so to speak... and saying it wasn't a spoonful that brought us to obesity is a very relieving observation to read. Granted calories add up but I don't think its anything moderation and dedication can't counterbalance. I'm an athlete so carbs were my best friend at a time, so I'm going to need to get them back eventually

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
