HELP! why can't I eat and drink more, I'm so weak!

Recommended Posts

I had surgery March 5th 2013 so I'm 7 wks post-op. I still cant eat hardly ANYTHING with being sick to my stomach...and I'm barely getting down 6 cups of Water a day, forget Protein Shakes all of those were so nasty I can't even swallow them. I do take liquid vitamins and extra liquid Vitamin B 12. But am I ever going to eat semi normaly again....this is really getting in the way of my outside fun, gardening, 5 mile hikes, other outside activity. People are talking on here about working out at 3 weeks post-op...SERIOUSLY??! I can barely get up a flight of stairs!!!! should I got to my Dr. about this?

Absolutely you should see your doctor. I was sleeved on 3/19 and feel good. I am on pureed foods and seem to be doing good on them. I am so sorry that you're having issues :( My thoughts are with you. I too, have an issue getting in my full Water quota though. I try my hardest. Have you had blood work lately? I know that I am anemic and I get pooped easily. I am actually going to be going in for Iron infusions within the next few weeks. You should check your blood work to make sure you're not deficient in anything.

Sleeved on March 8 and am still tired a lot. It is better than before but still not 100%. I don't know why either but its really a hassle. I can eat and drink pretty easily but I do notice that the further out I get, the smaller the drinks and bites of food that I can take are getting. Its very strange. I get full easier now than I did 2-3 weeks ago.

I wonder if this happens to anyone else?

But you should probably call your Dr and ask about your inability to eat and drink w/o feeling sick. I hope you get better soon:)

This happens! It happened to me about 2 or 3 weeks after my surgery and it was because my stomach was pretty damn swollen. I could barely drink 12 ounces of Water a day....after I hit week 8 or 10 I was finally able to drink 40 ounces. It's a process and takes a bit longer from some to return to some semblance of normal. The biggest concern should be if you can keep liquids and food down, if you can't then that's a serious problem. Biggest focus should be keeping hydrated, trust me. I hope things get better for you. I agree you should definitely make your doctor aware. And yes, it will get better. Yes you will be able to hike and resume your outside fun. And YES! You will get to eat more normal the farther out you get. It is critical that you get your Protein in. I used nectar powder in the beginning that you mix with Water. Went down easier and I would sip on it all afternoon to get my protein and water in. It made me feel more hydrated than the ready to drink kind. If you get protein and water in everyday you don't have to worry so much about the calories and your energy will come back faster. I didn't worry too much about 3 meals and 2 Snacks the first month, just the amounts of the P & H2O. My calories and carbs were always on the low side because I followed the "Protein First" rule. Still do.

I had the same problem! I am now 4 months out is *still* cannot get enough Fluid in. Still minimal amounts of food but I can eat. I only eat Protein since I can't get much of anything in. No shakes, either! It was probably 8-10 weeks before I stopped being exhausted ALL THE TIME. Still can't get a decent work out in. I have to take a lot of breaks. Had to work with my dietician to get some calories in. He told me that my reaction to surgery is not normal per se, but not unheard of. Just going to take our tummies longer to heal!!! Hang in there!

Thanks for commenting, its so good to know that maybe my system is just going take more time than others to come back to any sense of "normal" thanks for hydration reminder...:)

Thanks-you!!! It makes me feel so much better that I'm not alone, not some freak whose system is just going to reject any nourishment, and that everybody else at 3 and 4 wks post-op out there are eating normally just like before surgery...big relief!!

nectar is by Syntrax. Pretty much all the websites have it. I buy it from Amazon because I have a prime account and get free two day shipping. :)

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
