I've never heard of it, but according to wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitting_the_wall

The term bonk for cycling fatigue is presumably derived from the original meaning "to hit", and dates back at least half a century. A 2005 video issued by the British Transport Films Collection contains several old films, one of which entitled "Cyclists Special", a color film produced in 1955, tells the story of a party of cyclists touring the English countryside. At one point they stop for refreshments and the film's commentator states that if they didn't rest and eat they would get "the bonk".[1]

The term is used colloquially both as a noun ("hitting the bonk") and a verb ("to bonk halfway through the race"). The condition is also known to long-distance (marathon) runners, who usually refer to it as "hitting the wall". The British may refer to it as "hunger knock," while "hunger bonk" or "bunger honk" was used by South African cyclists in the 1960s.

From what I've seen, read and experienced bonking is when your body runs out of glycogen (sugar) to burn as fuel and switches over to burning fat. The switch over in the middle of a hard exertion like exercise is not very efficient and your body sends you signals to stop what you're doing....basically it makes you feel very weak and shitty. That's what happens to runners and cyclists quite often but it can happen to anyone doing any kind of long sustained exercise and it is not pleasant.

Interestingly, the more you work on burning fat for fuel instead of glycogen the less opportunity you have for this to happen. The body can get better at anything just by practicing it. I've been trying to keep my workouts in a fat burning zone for several months and have not bonked one time.

No girls....:)

I mean the last lift of a set of weight lifts. This is where I bonk, where I am praying for the nitro fairy to give me something, anything to finish that rep.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
