I Had my first appointment with sleeve surgeon!

Recommended Posts

I broke down in tears during my appointment !

Doctor weighed me , measured my height and told me that I was 35 BMI .

My life came flashing back ... All those years of being self conscious of my weight .., embarrassed at school .. Dropped out of dancing classes ( because everyone was slim and perfect ) settled for looser boyfriends ext ..

My surgeon saw and felt my pain and told me that I am a good candidate .

Having surgery in October .

Booked in !

I know family , husband will question the safety of surgery but for once in my life I know that nobody will influence me to not go ahead!

I am always influenced by people ( softy) always scared to voice my words in fear I will be judged on my weight !

I want to be free .. I

I want to loose excess fat and have no concerns that people will comment on my weight ( as if it is my fault for being fat)

I just want to be fit and normal weight .

I have a right to be skinny and so do all other overweight people !

I am seeing past the fat and excess weight now !

I will conquer and claim my right to be fit !

Thank god for gastric sleeve !

Bless the surgeons !

Good for you. Several of my co workers have had vsg surgery. Their relationships didn't last. I was engaged until a few weeks before my surgery. We had not been getting along and I wanted a fresh start with my weight loss. Seems like this really tests a relationship!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
