I am having surgery on Monday morning. I've been careful, thorough and dedicated all along, but now I find that I'm TERRIFIED. Not so much about the surgery (though some about that!) as about post-surgery. What if I regret it? What if life isn't normal and fun any more? Am I making an incredibly drastic decision??

I know I can't lose what I need to lose alone. And I hear everyone here say how thrilled they are. I want that.

Please help with my last minute jitters!!!

Your life will change... But it's what you do with those changes that's most important.

Seek support, don't close yourself off from friends because you can't "eat the same way"

As you used to. Life for most people doesn't revolve around food. Socializing can still be fun.

Give yourself love and time to heal.

And you will be fine :)

You'll do great! The first couple of days you'll probably be saying what the h@ll did I do to myself?? I did. I was sleeved on march 25th. But when you feel and see the weight starting to come off it will all be worth it. I was scared this being my first time going under. I thought for sure I would either not go under and feel anything or wake up during the surgery. Give yourself time to heal. I'm just starting to get my energy back. Of corse everybody's different :-) Good luck to you!

I'm right there with ya, Sarah!! My surgery is also on Mon, and a whole barrage of thoughts/doubts/fears are running through my mind - especially about life after the surgery. Right now I'm just trying to remind myself of the lengthy process to get to this point: the research, the questions, the appointments, more questions.... Ultimately I know that I didn't impulsively make this choice, nor did I make an uneducated decision. It's helping to remind myself of that....yet I think it's only natural that we're still scared sh**less!!! You're not alone. Best to you :)

Oh one more thing I'm 5 months out. My kids are downstairs with friends right now eating pizza

If I wanted a piece I could eat it :)

So things do get back to a more "normal" state.

Thank you so much, everyone. I'm on a business trip, in a hotel, kind of freaking out a little bit. I want this so badly! I just don't want to regret it, have it go wrong, or have it not work... The same fears I hear others express here -- and almost everyone, hundreds and hundreds of posters, say they're beyond-happy and have gotten their lives back. I'm trying to keep that in mind.

I'd love to hear from people what they worried about that didn't come true, and what they should have worried about instead.

Thanks so much for the support!!! The more I get tHe better I feel!

I worried and fretted 3 days before. I have had no complications thus far and don't plan to. I did it because everything else has failed up to this point. Two days after surgery I allowed myself to feel truly pitiful that I had let myself go to the point of needing a drastic wls. I had a full on woe is me sob session and got it all out. I am now one month post op and 25 lbs down and so glad I had VSG.

I hit 1 year March 21, this surgery is the best thing i have ever done for myself. I have lost about 126lbs, I have 60-80lbs left, and am still losing. I freaked out the whole week before surgery but I have never had a moment of regret.

First off, congratulations on taking the steps towards a happy, healthy lifestyle. Things in your life are going to change, and you, your friends, and family will all need to make adjustments along the way as you figure this stuff out. The first thing everyone asks me is, "how much have you lost?". I have found that we can get too hung up focusing on what we've lost and not looking at what we have gained. Personally, I have gained the ability to enjoy my family by being an active participant in daily life rather than sitting and watching from the sidelines. I have gained a feeling of confidence in the way I am perceived when I walk into a room full of strangers--I have found I am no longer "invisible"!! I am happier, I am healthier, and I am a source of pride to my family in all that I have accomplished. I suggest that you make a list of the things you want to achieve through your weight loss--not just the number on a scale, but the things you want to do and no longer want to do. Personally, the ability to get on an airplane and not have to use a seat extender, ride amusement park rides with my children, go to Victoria's Secret and go through the whole fitting experience and actually walk out with a bra that fit were a few of mine. Good luck to you and, again, congratulations on making one of the best decisions for you that you could have made!!

I am on my third day post-op. Not for a second do I want to go back to pre- or no-op! This was my choice, the right choice and now I am getting on with doing what needs to be done. Onwards to a happier, healthier life!

You will be fine. If you've made the decision and you're commited to making the lifestyle changes then enjoy the ride - it'll be a blast :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
