kiki1196 101 Posted April 20, 2013 This is just a rant so please don't blast me out of the water... I know that the sleeve is only a tool and I still have to make the choice to not eat "slider" foods or too many carbs, sugar, fats... If I had that kind of will power would I have even needed this surgery? Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful for the restrictions the sleeve provides me, very much! However, as certain stresses have come up so has my desire for my comfort foods! How do I stop myself? What is there to replace the food? There is nothing physical to stop me from downing a bag of potato chips if they they can just "slide" through. I've done a lot of research and went into this as well informed as possible. I just didn't expect things to be so "normal" this early out. Again, this is just a rant to get it off my chest. Please don't roast me over an open fire about dealing with my food issues. I'm really trying!! 6 No game, Gwenog1, scsleever and 3 others reacted to this
TheAbsoluteJoy 0 Posted April 20, 2013 People do have a tendency to blast others on here don't they! Im pre surgery April 29th is my date. Quiny 15 Posted April 20, 2013 I'm understand completely. I actually go crazy on Friday nights. I don't know why but i crave chips and salsa. I have a few just to satisfy the craving. I crave ice cream, but I have not tried it. I don't crave grease food. I do crave bread. I crave a beer. so I drink lots of Water. You are ok to feel what you fell, but be strong and don't give in. I have found that a tbsp of Peanut Butter takes away my cravings. I've been studying and that's stressful. I find myself grazing, so I don't study at home. I go to the library with no access to food. good luck. be strong. call for help when you feel tempted to eat. 1 Iniysa reacted to this
azheavensent 11 Posted April 20, 2013 I am only 7 days post op but have been thinking about how I am going to deal with my emotional/stress eating later on. I've begun looking up recipes and ideas. I want so badly to do this the right way all the way through but just in case I have a break down I have a plan. If I decide all I want is a burger from a fast food place okay I can do that many places have options to just have it wrapped in lettuce (carl's jr, in and out, and I think even BK). So if I break down and need a burger I can substitute a turkey burger and lettuce. If you are going to be dying for a bag of chips maybe have a healthier option, kale chips? or maybe even those Special K chips that only have 100 calories. Yes you are not filling up on the right thing first but at least you won't be totally devastated. So in my personal opinion if you HAVE to have something at least take the few moments to make a healthier decision. I have visited this blog and there are several others if you google them. http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ There are examples on how to make chicken nuggets, cheese sticks, just in a healthier way. I am only 7 days post op but on my preop diet sugar free icepops were my friend to prevent any cheating. Good luck with your journey! 1 Iniysa reacted to this
Takingcontrol 467 Posted April 20, 2013 I hear you! It's very easy to slip! You just have to be aware of it & get back on track! You at least have the restriction to not eat as much as you did. Tomorrow is a new day..dust yourself off & start tomorrow anew! 1 Iniysa reacted to this

ISleevedIt 380 Posted April 20, 2013 I have taken a different outlook on "cheating"...there is no such thing as "cheating" in my world. If I choose to eat some junk food, then I try to only do one serving then I think about how much more calories I have to burn or if I haven't surpassed 1000 calories for the day yet, then I have it. I find it's not like in the past, a serving or less is enough, but I make sure that I get my Protein and drinks in each day. Oh, and my goal is to burn 2000 calories a day. I use my fitbit to monitor the calories burned. Talking to a therapist/counselor or going to a support group can help. I go to a WLS support group sponsored by Kaiser each month. SMO 193 Posted April 20, 2013 I struggle with the crunchy stuff too. I don't crave sugar but I miss chips and other starches. My brain seems to be the enemy because my stomach does not really experience hunger. Sometimes I think I must be an addict and the only answer is total abstinence. You are so not alone. Threetimesacharm 1,400 Posted April 20, 2013 You are right it is not easy at times. The good thing though is this, you truly can not eat as much as you could before; even of potato chips(so I have found). food can not be a demon, we all will at some time eat less than desireable(okay desireable!) foods but we need to just get back on track when we are done. When you start to lose a significant amount of weight this really helps because you want to keep the weight off. You can do it!! Oh and I find having what you want is the best thing, eating around it(low fat/carb this or that) never really satisfies so you end up eating more than if you just ate the real thing in the first place.
