kimikat3 150 Posted April 20, 2013 I look at it this way... This is our "new" life... It's LIFELONG... If you have a splurge now and again AND HAVE THE CONTOL to keep it at a rare occurrence, I see nothing wrong with that... Some people go hardcore and live that way forever. Some people embarrass their weight loss and learn to look at food in a different way than they did before. I am choosing to educate myself about food and be mindful of my intake. Does that mean I will never have "bad" food or indulge in a few bites of unhealthy food??? Nope, I have no intentions of depriving myself of something that I want (with in reason). I think this first year is my time to take advantage of my weight loss and really work at getting myself fit. I personally have rare cravings for food that I shouldn't have... But I have allowed myself a bite of chocolate... And a few bites of thin crust ham pizza... I'm still losing weight and feel fine. I think it's really a PERSONAL opinion as to how you want to handle your "diet" for your life. We all had this surgery for a reason, we all value the wonders of our sleeves!!! 3 Vixynne, sharonintx and Babysteppin reacted to this
tammalina 2 Posted April 20, 2013 Glad to hear that people are able to tolerate foods like a cheeseburger; no one is perfect, I say its ok to treat yourself every now and then. I didnt get this sleeve to be miserable about what I am eating but instead to limit my portions. Of course I will watch what i eat. Im almost two weeks out and see doctor next week to hopefully progress to pureed stage. Any help with that stage is very welcome???????? What did people eat, did certain foods make you sick? Did you have to puree food or just chew it really good? Please help
soocalchic 1,087 Posted April 20, 2013 It's a friggin burger! I love how the food nazis always come out to shake their bony finger.. One day at a time tomorrow you'll be good right? SeriouslyChange 319 Posted April 20, 2013 I'm not condemning the cheeseburger, but I'm just saying: why get sleeved in what I am assuming is January only to consume a 300-500 calorie burger in one sitting? Why would you just not eat 1/3 or even 1/2. I'm not perfect, I drink juice, eat ice cream, munch on crackers I eat Cheetos, and have had Chinese food. But I also limit myself to just a taste. I'm 100+ pounds lighter and I will never allow myself to eat my way back up the scale. Call me scared of weight gain if you must The sleeve is a lifestyle change. It alone will not make you thin. You also must change your thoughts and approach to food. It is hard, but that's part of the journey. 2 mylifeinpink and Kristina J. reacted to this

soocalchic 1,087 Posted April 20, 2013 RIGHT!! There's nothing worse then a fatty who's been reformed & think their better then everyone now!!! No matter how skinny I ever get I will always be a fat lady inside.. I like eating pastries, cake chocolate, bacon and other porcine yummies Not necessarily in that order lol.. but i can still eat all that just a little bit at a time which is good for me.. Having a small tummy didn't change my mentality just my capacity. Initially it was very difficult but I got over it and now it's life..
kimbernada 190 Posted April 20, 2013 LOL, I have not had a baked potato since surgery March 6, 2013 but that's funny cause I like to smash mine out over the plate too. Yeah, I can't eat a whole one. If I do have any... it's about a tablespoon or two (and no skin). It's definitely an accompaniment that I can only eat after I've eaten my Protein.
kimbernada 190 Posted April 20, 2013 The best advice that my Dr ever gave me was to always eat on a tea cup plate. Even in a restaurant I ask for my box immediately and only leave what would fit on a the smaller plate to actually consume. Good luck to you. I do this too! If we actually make a plan to eat out, I even bring a container with me. I feel SO much better only eating what I know I can eat volume-wise. If I have a bunch of food on my plate, I still tend to pick at it, even though I am full. (Including fruit, so not just unhealthy stuff... it doesn't matter what it is, I just pick - and my sleeve doesn't like it.)
iggychic 1,405 Posted April 20, 2013 I went to the market today and had neurenberg sausage (low fat brats) on a bun with spicy mustard. My first since the surgery. It was yummy I will say that the bun was too much to handle for me, I ate about half of it and then DH received the balance of the meal, but I enjoyed it and will likely have another half next saturday at the market. The old me used to eat the whole thing and then come home and have a cookie I didn't have this surgery so I couldn't enjoy life again. I refuse to eat on a tiny plate or carry plastics with me LOL I still enjoy wine and I eat carbs ::SHOCK:: And I'm losing weight and doing fine. I just don't eat an entire loaf of bread or a burger at every meal. Enjoy life and don't listen to the grumps. There is nothing worse than a hungry and jealous former fatty who's sucking on a lettuce leaf while you enjoy a healthy portion of a yummy treat 7 KatieOkieDokie, SpaceDust, sherri3388 and 4 others reacted to this
Tabitha184 21 Posted April 20, 2013 I tried a kids cheese burger and threw it up! I felt terrible for about 3 hours after I threw up. It was 5 weeks after surgery. I actually only ate 1/3 of it

I actually only ate 1/3 of it I'm not surprised. That's pretty early. Most doctors don't allow bread for the first six weeks minimum and if it's allowed it has to be toasted. It swells in your stomach and can cause issues further down the road (burst staples etc). That said, I always say to people, listen to your doctor, then if allowed, try what you want. Your tummy may think you're nuts, which will keep you off the sweet/fat etc stuff for a while LOL

I'm 4 months out and eat almost everything. I'm losing ( slowly). I'm ok with that. I had a whopper Jr. The other day, Oreos today. The old me would have had a whopper and fries, 8 Oreos. I eat carbs, no problem. Still wonder if the surgery was done correctly. I have no restrictions, just smaller portions. Can't live my life eating in measurements.. I agree, I should not be eating some of the things I do. Still enjoying life, 1 sharonintx reacted to this
lilbearzmom 584 Posted April 20, 2013 BUT... I HAVE asked co-workers if I could smell their fast food bag. I told them that I promised I wouldn't exhale my germs... just wanted a big ol' whiff of their burger and fries. I do that if someone brings in donuts too. Mmmmmm... sometimes the smell is really all I want. I do this to my husband's and my son's food!!! LOL 1 kimbernada reacted to this
