I was feeling good the second day after surgery. I mean I still felt the manageable pain (with no meds) of the largest incision, which was where the surgeon pulled the cut off portion of my stomach out. I went in with a complete understanding of what I had done to my body and knew what I had to do to feel better. I had been walking about 5 miles each day PRIOR to the surgery that I was able to walk and get in all my fluids and Proteins. My main focus was fluids, proteins, and walking my first couple of weeks.

Are you getting B-12 shots? Ask your dr about getting them. That made all the difference for me as far as energy goes. I'm 4 months out now and get them every 2 weeks.

You really need B-12 shots. I was taking the sublingual and they're not NEARLY as potent. Ask you dr and he'll probably let you have the shots. I wake up easier and never yawn during the day now that I'm taking them.

Actually, the B12 sublingual can be quite effective. I was taking sublingual daily, and my blood levels were quadruple the normal. I had to decrease my dose. Perhaps your case was different, but that doesn't make it true accross the board. To the OP, it was several weeks before I felt good....but I did have a steady improvement during that time. It's normal to feel rough after such a major surgery. Some people are lucky and feel great after a day or two, it takes others longer, but as long as they are not having complications, that's normal, too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
