Day 4 Post op What can I drink?

Recommended Posts

On Wed before I left the hospital, the nurse listened to my stomach and said it was starting to rumble. I asked if that was ok and she said it was good :)

I am 4 weeks post op, and I still have a hard time eatting! I can drink about 32 oz of Water, and I usually can get my Protein in by drinking shakes, Greek yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese and refried Beans. Although I am on solids I still prefer soft foods. I had a few bites of roast and that went down well, but when I made a chicken breast it didn't settle all that good. Tonight I will try a boneless skinless thigh from the crock pot. During liquids I lived off broth, water, crystal light and sf Jello. And Protein Shakes. There are times that I still feel weak. I believe for myself that the weakness is coming from loosing so much so fast and causing muscle deterioration.

On another note, I do believe that everyone's recovery is different and every surgeon gives different post op rules. You will find what works for you, might not work for someone else. This is definitely a journey of discovery. Good luck to everyone.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
