Toddler Moms?

Recommended Posts

I thought I’d try to start a thread for those of us who are mommies to toddlers. I know I probably have a funny story to share about every day. I also find it hard to maintain my diet/exercise regime being a working mom and need all the support I can. If I don’t exercise while I am at work, I usually don’t find enough time to do it in the evening after dinner, bath time and bed time. :notagree My son, Harrison, is 19 months old today. He is such a blessing to my husband and me. He is a very active little guy and smart as a whip.

One of his latest phases is watching “It’s a Big World” on PBS. His favorite character is Snook the sloth. As soon as we get home in the evening he asks me if he can “Watch Snook?” because we Tivo it. At the end, Snook sings a good bye song and then puts his paw up to the screen for the kids to give him five. Harrison can be in a different room and he will come flying to the TV to give Snook five. It is so cute. He also is on a football kick. His daddy loves to watch the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. Harrison has a pint sized football and on Sundays he will run around the living room yelling “Watch Football” and tossing his football around. He will also throw his arms up in the air when he yells too. He makes his daddy hold his football and pass it around with him.

Anyway, all you other toddler mommies out there, share your stories and let’s offer support to each other!

What a lovely idea for a thread!

I am a single mother of a 3yr boy, Abe and a 1yr girl, phoebe. gosh funny things happen all the time...but Abe is constantly cracking me up...I had to tell him the other day that he couldn't do or touch something cause he was a 'too little'. to which he replied "but, I am a big boy!"... so i explained at length that yes he was bigger than his sister but not bigger than his cousin jack (who was 7yrs)....he thought about this very carefully for a few min then came up with:

"I'm a little Big Boy arent I mom?"

needless to say i gave him a big hug and agreed.

Hello all toddler mommies!!!

My little guy is 20 months. He is one of my main motivations for surgery (along with my hubby and 2 girls). He is sooooo active I just can't keep up. I want to run along side him and carry him for longer periods and just be there enjoying every little moment. One of my little worries after surgery is that I wn't be able to pick him up for awhile, I hope someone can at least hand him to me and I can rock him cause he loooooveees when I rock him and sing to him- hey, at least SOMEONE appreciates my singing voice!!!!

those stories are too cute!! I am a mom of 2 girls, Reagan is 21 mo. and Cami is 4yrs. They both just crack me up, my husband I frequently have to leave the room to laugh. My little one loves Nemo, it's all she talks about, well that and pizza which she pronounces peeda. My 4 year old goes to German kindergarten and now calls me ma ma, like the german kids do and instead of thank you she says "danka" and when i drop her off at school she says, "choose ma ma" The first time she started using German words we about fell off our chairs, it was so cute!!

My youngest is 3, she's pretty much out of toddlerhood now, but this has really worked well for me because I'm a part time university student so she is in 3 days of family day care per week. Because I'm doing a Bachelor of Primary Education and its part time and its very easy for an almost 40 year old with a bit of life experience AND I'm one of those super duper annoying people that gets straight A's without even opening a text book, I have quite a lot of free time to myself. I never had that when my boys were small and their baby and toddlerhood years were when I packed on the weight. Its a really hard time of life, but you do come out the other side of it.

We do a lot of stuff exercise wise with Eliza though - my DH and I go for a run at night and I get the dubious honour of running with a jogging stroller. We often head off to do it (run, that is) somewhere scenic on a Sunday morning, again with the stroller. I also have a treadmill at home and I just run or do weights while she's watching afternoon telly or something, she's more often than not occupied with the older boys.

But I'm not sure that would have worked at 19 months, she'd have more likely tried to stick her fingers in the treadmill workings - and I have clouted her on the head with a 5kg dumbell before too.

Eliza can turn the treadmill on, set the speed right for her (without being able to even see the console, lol) and have a nice little walk, lol. She's pretty active too and is starting swimming lessons today.

Ah, you have got to love those little ones. They say and do such funny things!

Flabuless – that is so cute about Abe’s little big boy comment.

Mvpov – I am with you. Harrison was a huge motivating factor in my decision for surgery. I had my surgery 2 days after he turned one. My doctor told me to try not to lift him for at least a month but use judgment. I was still breastfeeding him when I had my surgery so that was not an easy task. I think the first week or so my DH just handed him to me, but after a week or so I was starting to lift him a little here and there. It was rough but we got through it okay.

Sweethot – that is funny about your little one speaking German. One of my best friends growing up was German. She taught me how to say all the bad stuff J

Jacqui – I have been trying to convince my DH to get a jogging stroller. I think that would help me teach Harrison to be active and be a fun quality thing to do together.

Hi guys! I am the mom of 2 boys, Brady is my 8 year old and Coby is my 2 year old. With my older boy, we never experienced the "terrible twos", he was a dream child, BUT we are experiencing them with number 2!! He's quite a handful but he can really melt my heart!! First he was really into Elmo, now it is the Power Rangers for some reason. Brady potty trained practically overnight, it was amazing. He only had 2 mistakes, that was it! Coby, on the other hand, is not interested at all, I think it is going to be a looong road!!! But, I wouldn't trade him for anything! Well, maybe a girl!! JUST KIDDING!!!

I have considered potty training with Harrison. He seems to show signs of readiness. He will tell me when he poops now. He's been sick and we had a recent death in the family so timing has not been good. Maybe we will start this weekend. Any tips?

I just waited - all 3 of mine did it themselves. I'm too lazy to think for them, I just waited till their third birthday, said "right, you're too big for nappies now" and took them away cold turkey. All 3 trained completely within a week or two.

Most of my friends I know who tried earlier, it took them months and months and they were having to think for their kids, remember to take them to the toilet etc.

I never used a potty either, just straight onto the big toilet.

I think the thing with training kids at two or earlier like we all were when we were babies, is that it wasnt the kids that were trained, it was the mothers.

Hi girls---this Granny is popping in to share a story from today. I babysit for my 2 yr old (as of the 1st) granddaughter, 5 days a week. Today we had to get some pictures redone, that they messed up the printing of. So the woman asks my DGD "how old are you" to which Kinsey replied "2". The woman looks at me, and I nod, so she goes on to ask her "Are you a good girl?" Kinsey very non chalantly says "I a beast"...to which I once again nodded!!!

She and a friend "Play" they roar, etc....they say they are beasts a'la Beauty and the Beast.

The woman just looked at me like I was horrid, when there are times that truer words were never spoken!!! but "Beasty" or not I love her!!!

Glad you girls are getting together for support!!!

Kat

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
