bringiton 68 Posted April 19, 2013 Yesterday I had a dentist appointment followed by my nut appointment followed by a wls support group. I was gone or driving much of the day and didnt get in but half of my fluids. I seriously blacked out for a second and scared myself silly! Now, do people who have had wls dehydrate faster than others, say, within 12 hours or is this just specific to me? PJinWashington 49 Posted April 20, 2013 It can be harder to get enough good fluids down with your smaller VSG stomach so you have to be diligent about planning ahead when you have a lot to do like that. I ALWAYS have a bottle of Water in my car, purse, next to my computer, bed, etc...and even then, I struggle with getting enough liquid down every day. Your Protein Shakes count toward your liquid consumption and other things like, Jello, etc. I have struggled with dehydration my entire life (even well before VSG) and the side effects are not pretty...besides the dizziness you mentioned which severely affects your balance, there is shakiness that makes it impossible to write, nausea, headaches...DEHYDRATION IS NASTY and BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH! SMO 193 Posted April 20, 2013 I was very busy yesterday and sometime in the afternoon realized I had not had even 20 oz of Water. I also had not had to urinate all day. I had a headache and a dull pain in my lower back. When I did go, my urine was very dark. It scared me a bit because I felt unwell. So I made a real effort to start drinking early this morning and by noon, I was feeling fine. I think I is possible to begin to feel poorly rather quickly, but you could also have had something else going on. Dehydration will cause low blood pressure which can make you dizzy or faint. Low blood sugar can do the same. Did you call the doc? Blacking out is nothing to mess with.
