Hopeful in Rochester 10 Posted April 19, 2013 I've gained three pounds in the last week or so! I'm six weeks post op. my starting weight was 200 and now I'm 178. I eat about 500-800 calories a day, the majority of which is Protein. I fall short on my fluids - I get around 45 ounces a day. I've also started exercising almost daily over the last couple of weeks. What else can I do? I'm so very frustrated to have had this huge life-altering surgery and to see the scale moving in the wrong direction... I'm trying not to focus solely on the numbers but seeing them move up is really scaring me. Open to all feedback!!
Shawn Morrison 71 Posted April 19, 2013 " I eat about 500-800 calories a day, the majority of which is Protein. If you are taking in only 500 calories and exercising you are probably in starvation mode and your body is trying to hang onto everything it can. I try to stay closer to 1000 as long as I'm exercising because I burn between 300 - 500 in a session. Next you have to get the Water in to be able to process everything properly. Up that and see if that helps. 1 TES reacted to this
TES 858 Posted April 19, 2013 I find when I'm retaining Fluid that extra Water and Protein help. Sometimes I retain fluid initially when I ramp up exercise. Also could be hormonal? If it continues, I would definitely check with your PCP to rule out a medical cause (high BP, edema, CHF, etc.). 1 Shawn Morrison reacted to this
mokee 588 Posted April 19, 2013 Calories need to be increased. Your metabolism is shutting down. My nutritionalist said up to 1200 a day. I don't exercise due to physical problems but I am still losing. Most days I am around 1000 cal.
tannak 60 Posted April 19, 2013 I am in the same boat! I am only four weeks out but the wait loss is very very slow so I am going to try and up my calories to at least 1000 a day and see if that helps my metabolism!!
LINDANACK 15 Posted April 20, 2013 How about inches lost, are you watching that? Sometimes the scale takes forever to drop down so look at the inches lost and if they are coming down, then just hang in there. It will come.
Not Applicable 52 Posted April 20, 2013 PITA stalls!! Sounds like you are doing everything right . (Well w/ the possibility eating & drinking more might help). Hang in there, it will pass
