2 Days Post Op Question

Recommended Posts

Oh man this is terrible almost hard to breath. How long did it take to get rid of it?

Walk as much as you can. It is the gas they fill your abdomen up with. It is not in your intestines so you can't pass it. It has to be absorbed through your cells. Walking increases circulation and oxygen exchange. It is miserable but only temporary.

You don't have to weigh the popsicles, just use the nutrition facts on the box for the weight.

Soups are so yummy in the beginning. Just be careful to check the amount of sodium. Most Soups are pretty high and can lead to dehydration. Buy the soups and broths labelled "low sodium".

My doctor told me just to focus on hydration for the first week and my second week would be Protein

You can get both. You do just have to almost constantly be putting something in your mouth. I used nectar powder mixed in 8 oz of Water and sipped that. Technically, it is 64 oz of "liquid" a day not just Water. So your Protein drinks DO count as part of your 64 oz. = ) I know a lot of people who were trying to drink their Protein AND 64 oz of water. Yikes! Too hard!! I also took a bottle of water to bed and drank every time I was awake enough to think about it. Because your body needs it and is using it, surprisingly you don't have to constantly get up and go to the bathroom at night.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
